I have an office in my place that is in direct sunlight and I'm trying to find a monitor that goes up to 500 nits of brightness but I'm not seeing anything out there that is new/modern.

I recently purchased a 24 in iMac and created an office in my spare bedroom. It's amazing but over time I've started to want a larger 27 or 32 inch screen. During the afternoon when I use it, it'll go up to max brightness of 500 nits. I'm thinking of replacing it with a Mac mini and getting an external monitor. So far though it seems that the best choice is the Apple Studio Display since that actually goes up to 600 nits. The majority of monitors out there only go to 350 nits which would be too dark for my office which is directly in front of a window.

To be fair, if you have your monitor in literal direct sunlight that's a bad idea given the heat and fact that max brightness 24/7 will burn out pixels much faster. Additionally, sunlight should be behind the monitor for things like video calls so the light shines on your face as opposed to blowing out the camera.

Now, if you are simply saying it's located in a well light room then sadly most monitors, tv's, displays, etc only go up to about 500-600 nits, if you're lucky, which is really bright honestly. Once you get higher it starts reaching HDR and above range which should NOT be sustained for long periods of time and could just look blown out. My advice is to find a monitor that gets good reviews (Rtings.com) since brightness is one of many factors and treat your office with blinds, curtains, or window tint which is easy to do and cheap using something like Gila tint you can pick up at most home improvement stores.

You sound like candidate for the Apple Studio Display with nano-texture.

Thank you, the screen is not facing the window and the sunlight is behind the monitor. I’ll check out Rtings.com
