Hi Guys,

Been using my MM for last nearly 3 months now. I do music production, and am struggling with trying to fit all my gear in usable spots on the desk. One issue is I ideally need to place the Mini in a position where it's a pain trying to reach around the back to power it on.

Anyone found any solutions for this? Also anyone have their Mini placed on its side? Any risks with that (can't think of any, other than maybe the fan)?

I'm pretty sure most places that rack them (e.g. Mac mini colo/MacStadium) mount them vertically (i.e. on their side)?

Why is it shut down? Don’t do that.

Okay so you think it’s okay to leave it powered on when not in use? I don’t use Energy Saver so don’t let the Mini ‘go to sleep’ or use ‘Power Nap’ because it plays havoc with my audio interface when woken, which then requires me to restart anyway.

Yes. I think it’s generally better to let the machine sleep. But if your audio interfaces aren’t working, then I understand. Are you running the latest OS and using the latest compatible drivers as much as possible?

Energy saver System Prefs has a checkbox "Start up automatically after a power failure".
That and a $5 to $10 radio controlled off/on switch should do the job for you.
Shut down, turn off the power of with remote. when you need mini again, turn on power with remote.

Thanks. Yes I’m running the latest everything driver and software wise for both the MM and my Universal Audio Apollo X6.

Most pro audio interfaces don’t support sleep mode on Mac.

Thanks,

I’ll need to look into this option.
