what i guess is, macbook won't have big change (including number of port) because it is a "extremely portable cloud-notebook", targeting customer to purchase more iCloud storage.

Until Intel up their game and build the Alpine Ridge features into the 4.5 W CPUs and allow Apple to put in two ports (as on the base MBP). Seems to me Apple of old would have publically called out Intel for dragging its heels on this rather than trying to pass off the single port as a design choice (which then suddenly falls by the wayside when the technology supports two ports...)

Except, I have nearly every document I've ever created since 1996 and it doesn't take up much space at all, what takes up space is images and videos. I used to say music, but that can be streamed now, (Cloudish to your point) Between Google and Flickr I can store terabytes for free, I'm not sure they are making much there, maybe, I've never seen a break down. I have several external drives in two separate locations that has everything, things I use I put in the cloud, it is convenient.

In other words, I think that I agree with you, but I don't think Apple is making much directly off the cloud, the convenience of the cloud does in turn however, make us buy more hardware. ;-)

Apple could have put in two usb-c ports if they wanted. Alpine Ridge has nothing to do with that. The only way I see the rMB getting two ports though is if they decide to ditch the headphone jack here as well.
