Does anyone know if it is worth upgrading the canon 400D (Xti Rebel) to the new 450D.

All I can find is SPOT-Metering, which is new, and of course 12mp instead of 10...

    worth an upgrade?

Why they switched from compact flash to secure digital is beyond me. File sizes get larger, and storage medium gets smaller.

But other than that, it looks great. Very good reviews too.

I think the most important feature is the larger viewfinder. It was the biggest feature the 400D was missing compared to the D80 (although AFAIK it's still smaller).

From the XTi to the XSi, probably not. From the XTi to the 40D, yes. The XSi has a few significant upgrades, but its really not a whole lot different from the XTi. If you had an XT, then it'd be time to cough up some $$. Either wait for the next, next-gen consumer dSLR, or if you're ready, make the jump to the EOS 40D while Canon is still offering $200 off, plus an extra $50 off that since you own an XTi. I don't even know why the 400D was released. It wasn't much better than the 350D, if at all. The 450D was a better camera, if not because of the addition of spot metering (why was the most basic form of metering ever absent?), and a larger viewfinder. This only happened due to the new competition from Nikon, which wasn't an issue during the days of the 350D. There was no need for Canon to offer any real improvements to the 350D, so when "developing" the 400D, they didn't really give people more. In hindsight, it was a mistake, and the 400D was the product of Canon's mistake.

    Get a 450D.
