After watching Z Fold 8 reviews there is one thing Samsung didn't take care of - the camera. When closed, the zfold 8 takes photos normally, if the phone is vertical, the photo is vertical. If the phone is horizontal, the image is horizontal...but when you open the screen, the screen orientation is now "wide", but the camera is still tall, so it shoots vertical photos and the camera viewfinder can't fill the screen. The "square" shaped foldables like the 8 Ultra don't have this problem, because every camera orientation is always the wrong one for a square display and either rotation is letterboxed or pillarboxed.
Apple is going to have this same problem with the rumored Ultra, and I can't see them shipping with that. And we do have an example of square-ish sensors in iPhone already - the front facing camera on the 17 series which can shoot in either orientation without rotating the phone.
It's possible Apple just overlooks this and does nothing just like Samsung, but I can't see them demoing the new flagship phone and not having a "fullscreen" camera viewfinder when it is opened. And flipping the camera orientation means the outer display would be formatted "wrong", and that is where most people would shoot photos/videos anyways. Plus, as a camera feature it is a pretty awesome one as that means you can film horizontal video using the outside screen while holding the phone in portrait mode.
I don't remember seeing any rumors about this, but has anyone heard of it? Maybe it'll get pushed off until the Ultra 2.
