Hi everyone and happy new year,

I know there are some reports of success with the Gigabyte Alpine and Titag Ridge cards, SSDTs, OC or Win10 warm booting etc, but I have another question:

Has anyone ever tried TB2 AIC cards which follow the Intel Falcon Ridge reference design, like ASRock TB2 AIC, Dell, HP etc?

I have a TB2 UAD Apollo Interface which I now use with Firewire, but would like to use Thunderbolt. These TB2 cards pop up sometimes for relatively cheap (usually only in the US unfortunately, me sitting in Germany) and they would be a perfect match for my interface.
It's the same chipset which Apple used in the MacPro6,1. Maybe it's possible to activate them somehow in macOS? The drivers should be there so it's mostly a question about activating the device and or course firmware.

I know I am late to the TB game and all these "i got TB working on my MacPro" threads are about TB3.

Thanks everyone!

Cheerio, Ben

Hey Kevin,

thanks, can you please describe what the boot process is with UA Apollo Firewire devices? So they work from cold boot on, or is there any reboot process involved?

I am already using OpenCore on my MacPro. ;-)

Yes, my Apollo Silverface is TB equipped, bus has the original TB1 option card, which seems like not to work well with TB3 equipped computers, even not real TB3 macs, but I know it works fine with TB2 macs, eg MacPro6,1..

so I thought about getting a TB2 Addon Card for my 5,1.. the question is.. how big is the pain to get one working without spending months and years of researching, firmware dumping, hacking etc which is very interesting but I don't have the time and skills.. :/

The first Thing you have to do is to upgrade your thunderbolt card 1 to 2 or 3 getting the latest opencore 076 with ssdt for titan ridge and a titan ridge flashed to stay under Mac OS X you will be able to upgrade to big sur or monterey too

Nope, my point was if there is a TB2 card working in the Mac Pro. It will for sure somehow, I found some resources in a hackintosh forum. Thanks anyways.
Point is: I don't see buying a 200 bucks TB3 Option Card for an old audio interface.. the whole update would be at least 350 bucks for maybe one or two years more of usage..

Contact me in pm i can sell you titan ridge flashed and opencore on USB key
Hi Kevin, I checked you're ebay page but it's gone. Do you still have flashed titan ridge cards?
Have you heard of anyone having any luck with an RME Fireface 800 running firewire through TB adapter cables in the TB3 card. I can't get Firewire audio to work on Big Sur and wondered if this might be an option.
Thanks
