Quad 2.66, stock. Not one problem. Still head over heels in love.

Lucky.

Mine has a input device pause that is making it frustratingly unusable.

Im waiting to see what ADC bug reports/10.5.7 before calling up and saying WTF.

Shouldn't expect this from a £2k computer.

Would the input device pause be like a mouse freeze / jump / hiccup??? If so I had that on my 2008 MP with flashed 4870 cards. Are you also using a 4870? I whittled it down to the drivers but it might also be monitor dependent. What brand of display are you using and does the symptom persist on different ports (eg display port vs DVI).

It's getting worse.

This morning, the video card would only output to one monitor.
Went to the display preferences and hit "Detect Displays". Second monitor then turned on, but then I noticed that the mouse was hiccuping.

Rebooted, and the same display issue happened, but no amount of pressing "Detect Displays" would make the monitor turn on.

Just talked to applecare about his (Mine does this as well and I was already talking to them about my macbook pro, its nvidia died this morning:mad:) 'Tony' (applecare guy) said that apple knows about this and is preparing a fix in the next firmware or os update.... so just hold on and see if the issue gets resolved

Its Defo software, Im running 3 GT120's in mine and I get this on my 3rd monitor. Its like the card hasnt woken up.

Im not worried to be fair as it rectifies itself in seconds.

I've noticed the wireless mighty mouse has twice lost connectivity (albeit the mouse disconnected screen prompt does NOT appear as it should). Power-cycling the mouse does not restore connectivity, I need to use the keyboard to bring up the bluetooth prefpane, which is enough to prompt it to re-find the mouse. This would suggest a software issue, so I'm not worried at this time.

Another thing I'm keeping an eye on are the GPU temps as reported via RivaTuner in Windows. Temps can get into the mid-80's when playing games. but at least they remain at that temperature and the fan does increase slightly. I'm sure the temps are well within operating temperatures though.

2) If I look very very closely at the screen, in dark gray or grey/green areas I can see little diagonal lines moving across the screen, like a wave. It is certainly not the display as I still have my PMG5 hooked up to the same display via VGA and it does not show the same phenomenon with the exact same image (I tend to notice it easiest at the bottom left corner of the default desktop with the lines moving out from that corner). I'll contact apple if the problem persists after the next update. It really isn't noticeable unless you are about 3 inches from the screen so I can live with it.

I know this thread is about 4 months old but I would rather use it than start a new one. I have this exact problem that Abidubi states here using the Radeon 4870. It has done this since the first time I turned it on... I noticed these lines moving across the screen at about a 45º angle. It is undetectable on light colors but you can see it on dark colors very easily.

Here is a pic I took of it... I have changed the levels in photoshop because the lines are hard to make out otherwise.

I have tried swapping DVI cables, different monitors and nothing fixes it. I am about to setup an appointment with an authorized Apple Retailer to see if they can fix the problem but first I want to find out if everyone with a 4870 has this issue. Test it yourself, get a dark colored wallpaper and get up close to the screen and tell me if you see the lines.

I am considering upgrading to the GTX 285 and wonder if this would solve this problem as well.

I had that randomly happen on my Air. It's almost surely a software or firmware issue, which is easy to fix.

With regards to the GPU, temps that high are normal for both Nvidia and ATI cards under load. In fact, ATI cards have higher load threshold temps (120° as opposed to the usual 100°)

Problems with new Mac Pro

I purchased my 2.93 octo core machine the first month it was available. I have had a few glitches with third party raid cards, and having to reset the power manager a few times. Other than that, the machine has run well. It somehow corrupted my 10.5.7 install, and I had two options, reinstall, or run a snow leopard beta upgrade. Since I really didn't feel like reinstalling, ran the developer's release (WWDC release), and have not had a single problem. Impressive for a beta (10.6 10A421a), and loving it. In fact, the beta seems more stable than 10.5.7

Peace,
Noushy

Here's my Mac Pro 2009 config that I put together:

Octo 2.66Ghz
6 x 2GB Amicroe DDR3 1066Mhz ECC
1 x 640GB WD Caviar Black (stock)
2 x 1TB WD RE3 (RAID 0)
1 x 1.5TB WD Caviar Green
1 x Radeon HD4870 (Apple BTO)
1 x Echo Audiofire 8 (Firewire audio interface)
1 x Apple Cinema Display 30"
1 x Canon Pixma MP620 (Printer)
1 x Wacom Intuos 4 Medium
1 x Logitech MX Revolution (using LCC)

Love it to death. Only negative I would note is the odd high pitch buzzing that comes from the unit (I have the MP on my desk about 50cm from my head with the rear facing a brick wall, so any noise it's making is being reflected hard straight at me). Haven't figured out if this comes from the HD4870's stock cooler or from the MP's PSU. This is a minor issue, in fact I wouldn't even call it an issue. I will take the time to figure it out some day and if it is the HD4870 then I'll look into third party cooling solutions to eliminate it.

So far the only issues I have had in operation have come from one place; Adobe Software. I bought CS4 Production Premium along with the machine and I have experienced crashes in Premiere, After Effects, and Encore. Pretty pathetic considering the amount they charge for this stuff. I am under no delusions that this has nothing to do with Apple and everything to do with Adobe...
