I need to read on this shared data more because so far it doesn't look like it would save me any money on my 5 lines plus an iPad with AT&T.

I think it's funny on AT&T that unlimited is really just 3GB until throttling. Doesn't sound that great to me.

Well the big thing for me is I have a discount on my account and with unlimited you keep that discount whereas if you go with the new tiered data plans you lose the discount unless your on the $50 hotspot plan...

I see, fair enough. I get a 22% discount on my plan through Verizon whereas ATT only offers a 3% discount.. wtf?? My unlimited plan isn't a huge deal to me as I'd rather have a cheaper bill so I considered looking into other carriers. I'll probably be sticking with Verizon for the time being.

I'm wondering if they'll follow Verizon's footsteps? It's not really unlimited anymore anyway. Ugh I'm paying same price as home net it should be unlimited!!

Most people don't know this but Comcast and Mediacom and many other cable providers have caps now. The ones I've seen are roughy 250 GB/month.

Do you not remember when never throttled? Do you remember when AT&T moved to throttle the top 5%? Do you remember when AT&T started knocking users off of their unlimited plan if they were presumed to be tethering, when really they were just using lots of data? Do you remember when AT&T moved to throttle anyone over 3Gb?

AT&T is becoming MORE strict and LESS generous with pricing and data allotments. Assuming they are going to miraculously more generous over night is crazy. Once everyone starts going LTE, they will surely regulate and tighten up their LTE plans too.

Don't call me a child for calling AT&T out on what they have done in the past and will likely invoke similar behavior in the near future.

I'm aware of the situation. I've been throttled twice. To call out a company for an action they have not taken yet, though, is childish. We're fortunate that they even allow Unlimited Data plans to co-exist with the tiered plans. They could of axed the plans and instated that as soon as you sign a new contract you will be switched over to metered data plans much like Verizon.

Verizon didn't eliminate unlimited plans, you can stay on your unlimited plan if you pay the full phone upgrade. Although that's crazy, it's a fact that Verizon decimated unlimited plans to the same extent that AT&T did.

And you cannot say that my claim that AT&T may either lower or tighten their LTE plans is crazy, because they have tightened their 3G plans SEVERAL times even in the past year or so!

With AT&T you can upgrade with a subsidized price and maintain your Unlimited Data plan.

Ok. But the topic being discussed was "unlimited data plans", not the requirements or caveats relating to maintaining it. So, sure, Verizon requires full upgrade pricing, but doesn't kick you off your unlimited data plan.

Why not tell a story that's true. Speculation, assumptions & guesswork is not cutting it.

After reading your biased inaccurate posts, it's obvious you have a strong desire to malign AT&T.

I'm not advocating for any carrier. But I do support the truth, something that's been missing from your posts.

Twelve years with AT&T, plus eight with Verizon concurrently, along with the many smartphones I've had has provided me with plenty of experience. Both of these carriers are quite good. You get what you pay for.

Why are you still arguing? Verizon is throwing their customers to the curb if they want any sort of subsidization from the carrier. And they can throttle anyone they want because of their vague wording of 'tower overload'. With AT&T the throttling limit is set in stone at 3GB/3G or 5GB/LTE and they'll pick up the subsidization of your handset without removing your plan. There's no contest here.

EDIT: And you brought up the requirements of maintaing the data plans. Not me. Once I informed you that AT&T is subsidizing upgrades and allowing grandfathered plans to keep going you tried to back track. You have failed as a forum user.

Bias? Yes, my opinion regarding AT&T is not any less valid than the opinion of any forum user. Hint: If you don't like the opinions of others, than maybe you should stick with certain news outlets without forums; BBC, AP, ect.

We are all often posting our experiences, opinions and thoughts - that's what forums are for. Yes, I do have a "malign" towards AT&T, because their cell service sucks where I reside and work, along with their customer service, and their inability to erroneously overcharge our plan every month!

Did I say that AT&T is factually obligated to instate lower throttling thresholds for the unlimited 3G and LTE Plans? NO.

Would one be crazy for assuming that AT&T would screw over their users by raising prices, limiting their "unlimited" plans more, based on their consistent behaviors that exemplify these principles in recent years? NO.

I'm not saying I love Verizon, because I haven't had an experience with them. But AT&T is NOT "okay" in my book for my use. You have your opinion and experiences, I have mine. Below are the facts.

First off, Verizon does NOT throttle 4G PHONE unlimited users, even if using 3G service. AT&T will throttle 3G phone users at 3Gb, and 4G users at 5Gb. That gives it an advantage over AT&T in my book right away (not including the faster speeds, more LTE markets, ect.). Personally, I could care less about subsidization. I often pay full price for my smartphones as I upgrade before my contract expires anyways.

Please note that Verizon doesn't "throttle", they optimize. HUGE difference in technology and allocation of bandwidth. Read up, because they are two totally different animals, and Verizon screws you over a LOT less.

I would rather pay $650 for my smartphone, and have UNLIMITED, UNTHROTTLED 3G & 4G data, than get screwed with AT&T's not only inferior LTE network, but also deal with throttling ... all to save $450? Yea, ok, seeing as we all shell out likely at least $1200-1500 per year, per line, before taxes and fees, I really don't mind the $450 to have no restraints on my mobile usage.

Yes, it seems like every one of his posts is about how great is Verizon and how much AT&T sucks on everything.
Its starting to get old...
