I've got a 5G iPod and I very rarely use it for video. I tried it once on a long flight, but I realized I'd rather just close my eyes and listen to music. I've put a couple of YouTube videos on it to show to friends, but that's about it.

how do you download youtube videos?

The OP is saying that the 5th gen wasn't made FOR video, just that it is capable of playing it... The next gen iPod that is apparently completely real to them is the "Fullscreen iPod" that has been going around these internets and MR for far too long now.

makes sense... next question is it's been almost a year... when will this thing make it's way to us?

Not waiting, no. I very rarely use the video and I love the current one as is. Always a bit leery as to how they're going to incorporate the full screen and the controls and so forth.

Those iPod screens are so small. It seems very uncomfortable to watch a movie on it. It's a cool conept to have a full screen iPod but I wouldn't use it for video though... just music. Which my iPod Color is doing just fine for that. I would only replace if my iPod went Kaput.

Go to keepvid.com and enter the url of the YouTube video you want (like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6ItxyiPRrk, for example). Keepvid will display a link that you can right-click to download the video to your desktop. The file will be named get_video. Change the name of the file to whatever you want and add .flv as the extension. Drop that file into iSquint and convert to iPod format. It's simple, free, and it works.

Keepvid also has a "bookmarklet" that you can drag to your bookmark bar. When you're on a Youtube page that you want the video from, just click the bookmarklet... no need to copy and paste the url.

[EDIT] PodTube is a free little app that does the downloading, encoding, and renaming automatically.
