Any way to bypass passcode using Apple ID?

Hey all. We were cleaning out our closets to have our carpeting replaced and we found her old iPhone 5 squirreled away with a bunch of old phones. I'd like to get into it but she can't seem to remember her passcode. I don't want to restore because I want to retain whatever OS is currently on it in hopes of jailbreaking.

Is there any way I can do this?

Call up San Bernardino PD / FBI and ask for their method. That is the only way without restoring.

You get about 15-20 tries till it completely disables itself and needs a restore.
