Ask Apple
Just to be old school, I'd like to downgrade my 1st generation 8 GB iPhone to the original iOS that came with it in June 2007....silver calculator icon and all.

Why? No reason, just for fun.

I've read an article on lifehacker on going back to iOS 3, but I don't know where to begin to look for the files I'd need to do such a thing. Is it even possible?

Have you even searched for this on here? There was a thread about it less then a week ago.

I downgraded my iPod Touch down as well since the newer versions slowed it down like crazy! ;)

I know it has something to do with downloading an old firmware onto your computer, plugging your iPhone into itunes and holding down the shift button while you click on "restore" and it lets you choose the firmware file yourself which means you can search your computer for the old version you just downloaded. I'll try to find the website that tells you how to do it :)

Edit: got this website detailing how to roll it back here: http://www.redmondpie.com/downgrade-ios-4.1-to-ios-4-3.1.3-3.1.2-how-to-guide/ but I'm not sure which website it is that actually has every old firmware ever. Maybe someone else can help :)

Btw dont mind Intell... he just hasn't had his coffee today and is a lil' cranky =P

Remember you also have to have iTunes 7.7 installed as well. The newer versions of iTunes won't support very early builds of iOS (1.x.x and 2.x.x)
