Any way to enable Sata3 on 2010 Imac 27 ???

Hi, i've just fitted an SSD into my iMac and noticed its running at 3gb/s. I'd read about the firmware update for 2011 iMacs that enables Sata3 and as i'd always thought my iMac was a 2011 model I figured i'd install it. Only noticed now that the model number is actually 11,3 which makes it a 2010 model.

There is a firmware update available for the 27" 2010 model but there is no mention of Sata3. I'm presuming its not there in the update...could anyone confirm this? or suggest a way, if any, where I could enable Sata 3 in my machine.

You can't enable hardware that's not there.

Ok but I ask because when the 2011 imacs first shipped they were 3gb/s and it was a firmware update that brought them to 6gb/s. You're saying the sata hardware is different between the 2010 and 2011 iMacs right?

That's correct. The hardware, i.e. chipset in the 2010 iMac doesn't support 6gb/s SATA, whereas in the the 2011 it was just disabled by firmware at first and could be enabled by a firmware upgrade afterwards.

But if the hardware doesn't support something you cannot enable it with software.
