My brother wasn't thinking properly and put some folders in his dock thinking they would go there and then deleted the original folders. He then emptied the trash. Is there any way to recover the deleted files?

Note: He didn't backup his data either =/!

So long as he hasn't used his machine much, he might be able to get the files with Data Rescue II. OSX writes over the old sectors of the drive very quickly so unless he's actively retrieving the data or searching for it, tell him to keep the machine shut down. The demo of Data Rescue II is free and should be able to show what data is available for retrieval. :)

Thanks for the help. I'll try that out but it's actually my Mac and after he had deleted his files I went on and did some work. Atleast it will teach him to backup his stuff :p

It wouldn't hurt to give a data recovery app a go at it, but...

... since the machine has been used some, I would expect that the chances of recovering much aren't all that good...
