iPhone 11 Pro Any yellow tint on iPhone 11 Pro Max?

I bet its beacause we have a lg oled and not a samsung.

Remember LG had this hue shift problem in some google phone and their own phones when you tilt the phone couple years back? When I tilt my 11 Pro the display looks completely green!!!

They are all Samsung screens at this point. LG screens were not ready and Apple had a massive contract with Samsung to fulfil.

And why do they look so different too the X’s and XS’s? When I tilt my wife’s XS the display turns very slightly purple but the image stays crisp. When I turn my 11 Pro the display looks like if I look through green tinted sun glasses!

I have noticed that since the iPhone X hence since oled technology screen on iPhones. Each oled screen colour shifting is slighy different or sometimes very different. Now from what I have red across a lot of news is that the iPhone 11 pro oled panel is manufactured by Samsung and not LG.

I have one colleague owning the Galaxy note 10+ which is supposed to be one the best screen on the market and it looks less bright than my iPhone 11 pro both at full brightness and it is shifting blue too. Indeed I don’t believe the Galaxy notes 10+ panel could be from LG 🙂.

Regarding the brightness: I discovered that full brightness can be darker or brighter according to the ambient light. I don’t know if that is a iOS13 thing. I grabbed my wife’s XS from another room, sat down on the couch had both phones to max brightness and the XS needed a couple of seconds to adjust so both screens had similar brightness. Very weird...

The colour shift is natural though, my S10+ has the same green tint on shift but is whiter - my old S9 shifted pink slightly - that’s OLED. There’s a reason why Apple doesn’t include a white point correction option - they haven’t just forgotten or not thought about it.

This is also why they are not going with a lead for the MacBooks iMacs or iPads. Between the screen uniformity at all for access, potential for image attention and burning, and static images with increased contrast and hire brightness levels, micro LED will be the way. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the same technology get put into the phones at a later date as well once it progresses

I have OLED on my OnePlus 6, which is now several generations old and was only mid-tier when new. The screen is amazing. If I tilt it to about 70 degrees from perpendicular then I see a green shimmer. Is this what you mean, because why would you ever do that.

In the calibration settings there are several options. The default makes white look white, but others all look warmer. Maybe years of exposure to cooler displays has calibrated everyone to think true white is yellowish?

Maybe I won the OLED lottery? Maybe Apple is buying second rate parts to bump its profit margin?

My wife’s XS is at that angle rather color stable, just slightly purple.

Mine starts to change colors at 45 degrees (TT turned on). Mostly noticeable in Safari with rather bright content. Every time I need to tab something at the top of the phone wir my thumb I have to tilt the phone and I notice this color shift. At 70 degrees display is ugly green. My wife’s XS is at that angle rather color stable, just slightly purple.

I get nothing at 45 degrees except the brightness is a bit lower.

I don't think people should accept noticeable colour shift as being "just the way OLED is" any more than they should accept dead pixels as "just the way LCD is".

I don't think its just the screen either, my camera is taking shots with a yellow tint, I have turned true tone off and the screen is too blue now so can't win. This together with dust behind the lens of my camera is really frustrating. Not sure what to do.

I decided to do AppleCare+ express replacement and I am very glad that I did. The new phone is still on the warm side compared to my XR and XS, but much less so than the 11 Pro Max it is replacing. And the colors are much more vibrant. In the attached pic, both phones have identical settings - True Tone off, Automatic Brightness off, screen brightness set to 50% by Siri. The replacement phone, left, has much more depth to the colors and looks even better in person.

Change the wallpaper and you’ll see the Vibrant colors disappear. It’s a bug I think and many others have noticed it when changing their wallpapers.

I just gave up on trying to figure out a way to revert it.

I have changed my wallpaper from black to the standard coloured one, the screen with TT turned off now seems better, maybe this is all just a software bug?

I find in the same room the white balance is off on my photos as well, do they use the same sensors which detect white balance and configure true tone?

I actually had to swap mine for a faulty screen (touch sensitivity issue). Funny enough I also mentioned my yellow screen while I was there and once again was told they have never heard of it haha (eye roll) Anyway, when I got my replacement I was told by the Genius Bar Rep, that my replacement has an extra layer of QC on it. Meaning all GB replacement units are QC’d individually vs every 100 for the regular new units. I was thrilled to hear this and my hopes of having a less yellow screen came true! Got my device and immediately when that Apple logo showed up, I was instantly relieved. It was white. Restored from backup and compared it to the phone I was turning in. (True Tone off, brightness up) and it was perfect. The correct shade it should be. So, hallelujah! (First world problems)

My advice? Somehow grab a Genius Bar replacement vs. swapping for a regular phone. Your results might be better haha.

Before I used the stark white wallpaper for the lock screen it was clearly evident that regardless of the brightness setting, the iMessage box where you type messages was white, and everything else was gray. Now, with the new wallpaper, starting at about 40% brightness the entire background is the same bright white color as the iMessage box. Not suggesting I have recalibrated my display by using different wallpaper, but I do think there is something in the iOS concerning opacity which makes the wallpaper you are using highly relevant when viewing notes, iMessage, mail, etc. This new wallpaper fixed the problem on my Pro 11, which I can compare with my X.

sorry dude but that is not true for new lifecycle products. Genius Bar replacements at this stage are just retail units rebranded and with an N model. That will be the case after about 3 months once they’ve repaired 11’s and sent them out as genius replacements.

You got lucky screen wise.

That “extra layer of QC” urban legend is so old LOL
They always say that! They’re instructed/trained to say certain things!
In reality those are the same brand-new units (for now) minus the retail box. Also, that Apple logo thing is always blue when you just turn on the phone, as the ambient light censor doesn’t kick in right away. It changes way later. Don’t mean to rain on your parade, but I went through 3 11 Pro’s and 2 11 Pro Max’s (all different weeks and factories), and they’re all very similar to each other. The differences are in brightness uniformity and some slight differences in tint. More or less they’re all calibrated the same. You would need to completely restore your new phone from your most recent backup in order to be able to see what real differences are compared to your previous phone.
Anyways, congrats if your new phone looks better to your eyes. That’s what matters at the end of the day.

Then I changed back the background from uni black to some colorful stock background, reopen this thread and the yellow tint seemed to disappear. It’s hard to be sure because you can’t compare buts this is really weird...but I want my black background!!! (TT always on, because I don’t like it turned off)

You eyes are adjusting as well.
I have a PC screen on my desk at work that’s blue. When I look at my 11 Pro right after looking at that screen, it appears yellowish. Then I quickly move my eyes to a white piece of paper and back to my phone, the phone now looks completely white. It’s all a matter of perception.

Once the 11 line has been in circulation for a while (3 months+) and Apple have had a chance to repair the faulty units then yes, they are QC’ed to a lower level because they are essentially repaired units. But this early in the lifecycle, all genius replacements are simply brand new production units so no need to add an extra layer of QC.

THANK YOU!!!! I thought I was going crazy that my screen looks more washed out. I have exactly the same issue. I took a side by side screenshot of the wallpapers and showed an Apple store employee, he couldn’t see any difference. The online guys were useless too... I guess it’s a software bug but it’s still here with 13.1.2... photo attached of the difference. It seems to come and go! Sometimes the screen looks perfect and then it goes all washed out...
