No one could ever hate donuts :D

i love the analogy. however, if you really feel that way about a computer let down you need as much help as i do. perhaps we should check outselves into a free clinic.

Just wondering about the donut analogy, would the donuts be free? Because that would change everything.

not that anyone of you really care about my opinion, nor should you, but i hated the imac when i first saw it. I was praying to dear buddah that the whole Time thing was a scam and it wouldn't look like that. I couldn't believe it, but the more I look at it the more I drool for it. I have been wanting something EXACTLY like that, I kept hesistating to get a cube but i didnt know exactly how I'd work the monitor into my desk. Heh, no problem now. What is up with this "ITS CRAP!!!"?? It's the 2nd fastest G4 processor for sell IN THE CONSUMER MODEL for approx $2000 less than it would of costed you yesterday and a dramatically more stylish package. Get an open mind. Sure, the powermac has 67mhz more and pci slots. Also has giant case with some big noisy fans, giving you more hard drive space. But thats about it (with the exception of the DP 3500$ mode). Oh yeah, they also threw in a 15" LCD and a Superdrive. Hmm, if you ask me, an tru mac fan, or any educated PC user thats a sweet deal. And if you don't care about DVD (playing or burning) you get to cut the price down to $1299 saving $500. Come on, $1299 for no not yesterday's but still TODAY'S $2499powermac.. plus a 15" lcd..

eeehhhh sorry for the rant, but i cant believe any of you can call a 700mhz g4 cube with an awesome 15" monitor for only 1299 CRAP!!

i love it =\

The analogy I'm drawing here, which may only make sense to a geeky few, is this:

In the world of anime geekdom, there is this little cabal of grumpy geeks who think no anime is worth watching unless it contains deathly serious grim melodrama, ultraviolence and really great mecha animation. They are totally dismiss any of the lighter stuff, as well as the people who watch it. They think of themselves as the COOL nerds, and they're too good for anything that doesn't fit into their little narrow view.

A lot of Mac nerds follow a similar philosophy, like they want their computers to make them look like some sort of badass instead of the Mac nerds they are. To paraphrase a recent Penny Arcade strip, that boat already sailed. Go up to a non-nerd and start explaining to them why the kleenex box is cooler than the lamp and see what reaction you get.

I love my PBG4 to death. It's mercilessly cool, but I also loved the clamshell iBook I had before it, despite any suggestion that I was associated with something sort of (gulp) cute. They're both excellent designs, as is the new iMac. This morning I was just thinking, thank GOD I didn't buy that G4 tower I was thinking about, because now I can have the same thing for about a third of the price, and I can literally put it anywhere. I can see these in people's kitchens (doesn't look much different from a kitchen appliance, really), in their living rooms, not being offensively obtrusive to people's decor, and particularly, I can see them bolted onto pedestals with touch screens as really amazing kiosk devices. Functionally, it's a fantastic design, and it also looks great. It just doesn't look like a computer the way we've come to expect.

Basically, I think some of you need to base your opinions of things on the things themselves, rather than on whether you think other people will take YOU seriously if you own one. But that's just my opinion.

Sure they brought back the cube. The cube had:

-A G4 processor
-small footprint
-little expandability

The iMac has:

-A G4 processor
-small footprint
-little expandability

However, it costs less, comes with writeable drives, a monitor, and has no external power supply. They should have called it the G4 Dome instead. I'm not a huge fan of the design, but at least it's freakin' different! Innovation is rarely appreciated at first, but is often venerated later. So thank you, SAG, for showing how revolutionary it really is.

revolutionary adj 1: markedly new or introducing radical change; "a revolutionary discovery"; "radical political views" [syn: radical] 2: relating to or having the nature of a revolution; "revolutionary wars"; "the Revolutionary era" 3: advocating or engaged in revolution; "revolutionary pamphlets"; "a revolutionary junta" [ant: counterrevolutionary] n : a radical supporter of political or social revolution [syn: revolutionist, subversive, subverter]

Maybe I was wrong.. the term "Revolutionary" can be used easier than I had thought. The iMac is radically different. So that makes it revolutionary. HALLELUJA!! (however you spell it).

WELCOME TO THE REVOLUTION!!!

--its still freakin ugly tho

The Revolution

I see you went and looked it up. Haha... You realy just dont like the iMac. Maybe you should go and look at one upclose at the Apple store. Who knows.. maybe you will fall in love with it.

... I still think they are cool
