So I didn't buy iPhone X (10) because of the notch. Although someone else told me in here that I still would be lining up when the phone opens. I can't say I'm not excited to see what the new phone looks like but the notch is seriously bothering me still. It maybe petty but for a $1200 phone, I don't think there should be any sacrifices in what you like in it.
I am waiting for iPhone 11, I am hoping that they will solve this notch problem by then.

That would require Apple to see the notch as a problem. They don’t.

Have you spent much time using an X? It really does tend to disappear after a few minutes.

The notch is fine. It's only an issue if you want it to be an issue and go looking for problems rather than enjoying things.
I don't like it. Not really looking for problems but more so hoping that things will change. Not everything that Apple makes is perfects. New MBP 2017 has lots of issue, just search the forums. On the other hand I loved their 2014 MBA so much that I got 2017 MBA 13 inch just recently. I love their iPhone line andI can't imagine working on a droid. I just don't like iPhone X. It's more of a taste than anything else. And it bothers me.

True. I find it's mostly an issue if one has buyer's remorse jumping on the 8 (not plus) so quickly, has an OCD attack looking at it, or has an Android phone wedged in their frontal lobe.

Yes, for those of us who decided on an X, we bought it in spite of it or it wasn't a factor one way or the other. There are annoyances with the way the iOS works with the X because they are a sharp contrast to other iOS flavors, but the X is still great hardware and a joy to use.

In terms of how much I like the company, I loved their 2014 MBA so much that I got 2017 MBA 13 inch just recently. I love their iPhone line, that I can't imagine working on a droid. I just don't like iPhone X. It's more of a taste than anything else. And it bothers me.
Did I say it was perfect? I just said the notch is fine, which is clearly my own opinion. With current tech it's either that or a black bar at the top, and personally I like the shaped screen and use of the space the "ears" provides. Maybe all iPhones next year will have notches, maybe in a year or two the notches will disappear as they shrink the tech so that it can fit in the thin bezels. In either case I'll enjoy those phones just as I'm enjoying the X right now.

These are iPhone forums, not MBP forums so I've no interest in searching around that thanks.

I don't mind the notch if the form factor allows for optimized content. I'm not impressed viewing (on the iphone X) pics and video taken on the iphone X. This content needs to fill the screen in it's original form including the notch and it doesn't do that. You can only zoom in to fill the screen. Whatever the case, something about it isn't appealing that perhaps an X plus would take care of better.

I was in the same thought process for most of the time since the keynote (and before with leaks etc) that I just didn't like the notch and would hold out. I ended up ordering the X to at least trial it and people are right, the notch does fade into obscurity. I don't think you can appreciate that by just testing one out in store or seeing photos/videos of the phone in operation, it really does take a day or two of use before it just becomes normal. Not saying it's ideal by any stretch, but for me it doesn't take away from the phone at all.

Having said that, to each their own of course and I understand why you're holding off. I held off with the 6S and 7 last year because I could, for me it would all come down to how my current phone was holding up. If I'd held off this year I don't think my 6 Plus would have made it to the next refresh! I was in dire need of a new phone, so I took the plunge and don't regret it at all.

If the notch is an issue for you, if you're holding out til next year I believe it's still going to be present then as it is now, just my opinion. Luckily the iPhone 8/Plus lineup is still a great choice!

I opted for the X, even though the notch is not ideal. I agree with others, it tends to blend in the background and is not noticeable most of the time.

Given what we've seen in Apple wanting the developers to embrace the notch, its not going to go away anytime soon, so the XI or what ever its called will no doubt have a notch

Pics taken with iPhone are a different aspect ratio, so zooming in would crop the top and bottom.

No, photos and videos should not include the notch in their form factor.

Yeah, I'm definitely not an expert on all that but regardless i'm not blown away with viewing this stuff on the X. On the Plus, they fill the screen so that's what I'm used to. It'll be interesting to see what Apple does with notch and more real estate on a bigger X.

It's not a problem except for video playback with a wide aspect ratio. Watching a movie or show with a notch in it is utterly ridiculous, but luckily the default is to zoom out and create a small pillbox around it. It's not a *huge* deal but recreates virtual bezels.

Apple claiming that this is a 5.8 inch screen is a bit dubious IMO. Otherwise, it's a great phone.

You don't need to give yourself reason for not buying the X. If you care so much, you actually want to buy it very much.

I do because I love OLED screens but as I said when I spend $1200 or $1300, I want to be 100% happy about it and not having something bothering me about the device.

Next year, they are going to cave and buy a phone with a notch in it. Lol. And then realize the notch is no big deal.

The difference between an early adopter and the masses is the rate of acceptance.

The notch to me is irrelevant. I wanted a larger usable screen. I can’t wait for the 2018 Plus size variant!

Life Tip: All things, and particularly, consumer products, are going to have issues - it's up to you whether you're always disappointed because your expectations never reach that magical 100% and/or how much you allow issue X/Y/Z to _really_ affect your enjoyment :)

I also view things with a bit of an engineering/feasibility lens - so in that context, I find the notch pretty darn clever.

Not going to happen!
Apple will stand by the design choice whether we like it or not.

Yeah, I'll go on record to say there will _not_ be a no-notch design next year. It'll be the same form factor for the X with the assumed internal upgrades (SoC, cameras), possibly an addition of some new tech to the rear cameras (also a new color :D), and I'm giving it a 85% chance of an X+ (though NOT at the old aspect ratio, this is the new way forward, it's going to be 18.5:9 minimum, if not just adopt the X a/r of 19.5:9)

I'm quoting this member who said it best about this NON-ISSUE!!

Like seriously, people who aren't buying the phone just because of the notch and keep whining about it need to move to a separate island and stay there because they are too sensitive to everything. If you don't like it, move on and get the 8 or stay with your current phone. Stop making a mountain out of a molehill.

The notch is a non-issue if you actually own the phone and apparently a huge issue for those who don’t or the media that needs to generate clicks.

While I think the notch is ugly, it's not a dealbreaker. It's more that I don't want to be an early adopter at this price point while I wait for the software experience to get more polished and optimized. I also want to see what hardware is to come next year. I'm hoping Apple releases a new smaller phone (ideally an X-style device). If that doesn't happen I'll likely get either the 2018 X, a used 2017 X, or just wait to see what 2019 brings if my iPhone 7 is still doing well.
