It just seems that if they announced this ipad in 2007 I would have been blown away.

And if they had then announced the iphone yesterday, saying, "this is an ipad that makes phone calls and texts and also fits in your pocket!"

I would have been blown away all over again.

Seems to be a backwards step to me, or maybe at the push, a sideways step.

I know the app store will open things up, and it will be interesting to see how that develops.

I think the main point steve tried to make was that this is a new device that would work great for people along side your macbook and iphone.....but honestly, if I had all 3, I cant think of when i'd get out the ipad....

....unless I wanted to show it to my friends. :D

But maybe thats the whole point

Let's say you're goin on a vacation somewhere, but you don't know if the hotel will have wifi or free internet in the rooms. Which would you take, your macbook or iPad, with built in internet?

People need to understand that it can do things that other apple products cannot. It's got built-in internet, unlike the iPod touch and macbook. and it's got a bigger screen than the iPhone, which would make watching a movie or tv show or surfing the web more enjoyable

i think there are still a few "easter eggs" with the iPad that will be revealed in March or April.......

(I thought about this today) I think apple HAS to do away with the 5 device restriction connected to 1 iTunes account...... how the heck can we even think about buying 1 if not 2 iPads when already "we" have 2 iPhones & 3 iPods already connected to an account... where's the room for an iPad.....

well aren't you the Polly Anna?? Just HOW do you KNOW there are features that will wow those of us who are totally underwhelmed by the specs/features released so far? Sure, there will be SOMETHING new from the new iphone OS, but unless they can get that thing to fit in a pocket and not require, as some nerds here suggest, a "man bag", I'm not interested. No multitasking really bites the big one and I doubt Jobs is going to allow that. He whines too much about multitasking cutting down on speed. It would be nice if he'd let US decide how much multitasking we use on our devices.

This imo is the point. I now have a choice to use a 3.5" screen, or a 10" screen. Personally I'll be using the 10" screen for nearly everything I do now on my iPhone and it will more enjoyable for me to do so.

Sure SJ hyped the hell out of it calling it "magical and revolutionary" which I think everyone agree's it's not, but it provides a choice for people who don't want to use their iPhone's small screen and either don't want to pay twice the price for a base model Macbook to surf the web and check email.

It doesn't matter if it's Apple or HP, Dell or Archos every "tablet" device that comes out in 2010 won't be all things to all people. Just like netbooks, many think they are trash, others love them for what they are.

I like my netbook but have no illusions about it (something Apple fanbois should consider when spouting their reality-distorting nonsense). It doesn't do video well, the keyboard is slightly too small. Other than that, I've installed Win 7 Home Premium on it and it even works with Aero. The screen is crisp and VERY BRIGHT. I've had it more than a year and it works flawlessly--it picks up the wireless signal from our router or MiFi with ease--much better than our Touchs, or Gateway lappy. oh, it's an Acer 9.7 (or thereabouts--just under 10")

I'm glad you enjoy your netbook. I hope you feel better for trolling every thread and trying to insult people for their views. Sorry you were offended, I think I stated pretty clearly....

"Just like netbooks, many think they are trash, others love them for what they are."

    Little defensive eh?

It isn't hard to pick things a device doesn't have and come out with a negative result. Selectivity.

In it's present iteration, the iPad isn't even a blip on my radar screen.

I've done a fair amount of iPad bashing on these forums. But all my bashing aside, I see a great potential for the iPad and find it to potentially be ground breaking device much like the iPod & iPhone. But it will take some evolution and changes, IMO. It needs:
    1) front facing camera to allow for video conferencing via both WiFi & 3G,
    2) having a full web browser (mobile Safari sucks for a true internet browser),
    3) on-board USB port - like a regular computer,
    4) multi-tasking option.

To make the iPad the device Steve Jobs said it was, these things need to be added / incorporated.

With these changes, this device could be absolutely incredible. Without them, it's a large iPod Touch and nothing more.

Seconded, when people stop flaming each other about whether the device is worth it or not, they'll realize that this is the truth.

Price in 2007 aside, I tend to agree. If the iPad came before the iPhone, I would be more impressed than the other way around. Also, if the hardware specs of the iPad were not identical to that of the iPod Touch plus a bigger screen, I would be more impressed.

How can a device almost four times the size of the iPod touch have the same storage capacity of the iPod touch?
