its starting up by the camera, 5g off and was not plugged in. Then i plug it in and basically the whole phone is getting really hot! anybody else or did i get the crappy one? Never had to return one before so i guess i got the 2020 luck!

Not good. WIFI chips can do that. Charge in a safe place in case it melts down. Or exchange.

Like archer75 said, phones tend to get warm to really warm during initial setup. Any phone I've had gets warm during setup. My 12 PM got warm during the setup if that makes you feel better.

Mine warmed up when I was setting everything up but then it cooled down. Did you charge it while it was setting up? It could have been because of that.

Yeah, if it’s restoring from the cloud or downloading all your music and icloud photos, it will get warm. Give it a few hours and see if it normalizes.

Also check battery settings - even after initial setup you might find its doing things like syncing photo & music library for the first however-many hours.

When you initially get a phone and begin setting it up, yes, they get warm. I've had it happen with every phone including my android phones. After everything is setup and downloaded and logged in it goes back to normal.

My 10s and 11 pro max were warm during the initial setup-s.

12 pro max was the same temperature, really warm, but not hot. Plus minus couple degrees of celsius from what I had with 10x and 11.
/* made in China , assuming should use C° instead of F° */

My real concern is tthat the phone was warm today at the morning on my wireless 5V charger.

P.S. So far I cannot say that I like every aspect of the phone. Here what I do not like:
1. No 5G in dual sim mode
2. Warm
3. Screen is yellow -er (I bought 2 phones and both have the same screen)
4. Heavy and bulky

Well mine is still getting warm when plugged in, really warm. it has had plenty of time to index since Friday so something has to wrong

def not heavy. it feels lighter than last years. But i guess when your a max user you kinda expect the bulky and bigger part, no?

Interesting, my phone always gets warm during setup. Even through the case I can feel the heat.

My 12 Pro Max was getting warm on a car charging dock. It would get so warm that the led light/flash would not work until it cool down. Finally, I think it burn out the Cell Modem because I couldn't connect to AT&T network. Apple diagnostics says it was a hardware problem. I AT&T sent me a new one (under buyer's remorse since it would have been a week with Apple).

I also think wireless charging during restoring apps from backup causes heat that will disable flash/flashlight. I just took the new phone off the MagSafe because it was hot.

I haven't experienced that. I was syncing on itunes for quite a while and heat did not stand out to me.

Well for the last couple days it has been getting really warm, even using an apple adapter and cord. Had to take off case to release the heat. its only towards the top and right of cam lens. Apple diagnostics said i would have to take in..

Its weird cause it did it the first 2 days, then stopped and now has been doing it the last 2 days
