I guess not many other than a chip upgrade is there much else happening? I’m surprised they still do yearly updates im sure the took a break a few years back?

Even the basic iPad offers little over the 10th and the 12th expected to be same. Why update yearly?

The change from 8GB to 12GB of RAM can make a huge difference. I do imagine, the vast majority will opt for base model.

This is my biggest “regret” of getting the M4 generation, though I don’t think I would’ve waited another year and a half when OLED had been my #1 desired feature for years. Plus, the MacBook Airs still started with 8GB of RAM when M4 was released, so it wasn’t so obvious that Apple would so soon after be phasing out 8GB.

Now, my iPhone has more RAM than my iPad does. And my iPad refreshes tabs/apps much more frequently than I’d like it to. But I can’t really justify the cost of this upgrade. I also really don’t like what Apple did to multitasking in iPadOS 26 and upgrading would force me to get on 26.

I only got my M4 Pro a few months ago. I knew that the M5 would likely be released sometime this year or early next year, but I figured I shouldn’t wait for the new tech and have time to enjoy a device now. However, I knew that I’d want to keep it for years, so I almost completely maxed it out. I got the 13” with 1TB and nano texture.

Seeing how the new M5 Pro still only has 16GB RAM available with the higher end models, the only thing it would offer me is Wifi7 and a slightly faster chip. I’ve read rumors that it also supports 120hz external monitor output, but we shall see. Definitely not worth the upgrade. I will be happy with my M4 Pro until the M6 or M7 in a few years.

EDIT: I recently got a nice new job and am planning to move states in the next few months. As a going away present, my dad offered to buy half the cost of the new iPad if I wanted it. With trade-in on the M4 and that, it would be $600 from me for an M5 iPad Pro 13” 1TB with nano and cellular. Very hard to pass that up, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger. I have ordered one!

I bought an M4 iPad Pro last year, even though I could have gotten by with a M3 iPad Air. I justified the cost by planning to keep it for four years.

That's still my plan. I don't need this year's RAM upgrade enough to justify buying the new model.

I'm happy for those of you who'll be upgrading, especially if you're coming from a pre-OLED iPad Pro.

Nope. Just recently upgraded from my Pro 12.9” M1 to a Pro 13” M4. No change in RAM for me. My previous 12.9” M1 had 16GB and the 13” M4 I bought has 16GB (1TB cellular model). Got a great deal on it.
Was nice to move from the thicker/heavier M1 model. M5 model doesn’t really seem different. No reason at all to upgrade.

Really surprising that the higher storage models on the M5 version only have 16GB. Thought it would be 12GB/24GB.

Upgrading from a m4 11" 256gb cellular to a 13" cellular m5. As to weather I get a 256 or 512 depends on if the 256 is half the speed of the 512gb.

Nah, I just got my M4 for $200 off. Figured it was starting to dwindle stock-wise, but didn't realize the upgrade would be that fast haha.

I'm loving it so far and have no desire to spend another $200 for an extra 4GB of RAM at this point in my iPad usage.

The yearly updates are for people who don't update yearly
iPad Pro is on an 18 monthly cycle, not a yearly cycle

Not going to upgrade. Got the M4 11" Cellular version 3 months ago. Very happy with it. The increase in charging speed is good. But overall no reason for me to upgrade from the M4. Also have to see how the C1X chip affects cellular speeds. Currently extremely happy with the cellular network speeds I am getting on my iPad.

I actually wish I would have kept my M3 11". Was really hoping they were bringing back the rumored portrait selfie cam for FaceID, because the landscape one just doesn't work for how I hold/use the device.
