Oh that’s not comparing my old plan to new one. That was showing me the new bill compared to next one after that. (Without $30 fee) my old plan was $13 in taxes and fees. This one is like $50.

257 to 287 is a $30 difference

I think you might be reading it wrong. Your first post just shows the $30 upgrade fee, which Apple also tells you to expect.

I switched to eSim for my primary line and had a similar shock when I received their estimated “bill.” After calling ATT, they pointed out that the estimated bill did not show my FAN or autopay discounts and that the bill would be much lower. The bill was lower by at least $40. Wait and see what your actual bill looks like when it comes in, and if you are still not happy, then raise hell. 😉 Also, you can always change your plan back to what it was if 5G isn’t performing the way you hoped it would.

Are you sure the extra tax isn’t the sales tax for your new phone? I believe Apple charges tax at checkout, but if you ordered from ATT.com then the tax for the new iPhone is on your first bill.

this is why I switched to T-Mo. It's cheaper for me for 8 lines on T-Mo than what you pay. and the service is a lot better too
That is kind of subjective of where one lives. Tmobile here in Miami LTE speeds are fast as hell but their signal is spotty. They get a lot of dropped calls.. but you get what you pay for. They are cheaper. My friend pays around 30ish I believe on his family plan. Right now I am paying 40.15 on my family plan of 6 in AT&T Unlimited Elite plan. And for me AT&T signal is way better.

If that is the CSR or something like that, that they send, don't panic.
Wait for your actual bill, it should be much lower.

Also, it is a pain with ATT postpaid that when you change something, it seems to take a couple months to settle down. The next month has credits/debits and you have to wait until the one after that to see how close things are to what was promised.

I had something like that too but on my actual bill all I had was a $30 upgrade fee for the phone upgrade which I just clicked the dispute link and it was gone the next day. After that my bill was a bit cheaper than when I was on the mobile share plan.

There’s a dispute link? Is this on the website, app, or both? I’ve always called Loyalty to get the fee waived. I’d love just clicking a link. 😃

Same thing happened to me. Changed my plan that was around 288 for 5 lines to the new unlimited Elite. I end quoted 175 + 25(installment) 200 before taxes. I was auto payed 362$ today.

Was able to get 30$ refunded for the upgrade fee but thats still 332$. My bill got higher when it was suppose to get lower.

The rep told me the fees are higher on the estimate and to ignore them. The bill will be lower

So I'm glad I found this thread because I checked my estimate today and it was much higher as well. However, unlike you, I did not change my plan. I stayed on the Unlimited and More Premium because to me, 5G is a scam at the moment. Regardless, I was only expecting a $40 increase and its showing something in line of about $70 increase. I'm inclined to believe that @digitalfx is correct in what the rep told them.

It’s on my bill in the myAT&T app. I just recently noticed it. It hasn’t been there in past years.

Why would they send us over estimated bills so they have widespread calls come in and bog down the call centers.. freaking stupid!
Did you change your plan so that you can get 5g service? I noticed that for my single line plan the monthly plan Fee is $20 more if I want 5g speed and a mobile hot spot. If no mobile hot spot then the plan is $10 more per month. I have not yet changed my plan and if their 5g is as bad as people are saying, I am not going to. I would wait for your 2nd bill. The first one is always higher but the next one should be correct. That’s what I am doing. Got got my first bill which was $75 more than I normally pay because it included the $30 activation fee which I got credited for.

So I’m gonna wait and see what my next bill generates at before I raise bloody hell with them. Because there’s no reason why my bill should be higher if I’ve kept my plan the same and all I did was get new equipment which for me is $39.97 a month plus a $5 ATT next upgrade fee per month. That’s a new sneaky fee they said they have. I don’t remember that being on my last bill before I got my new phone. They charge $5 more per month to be on AT&T next so I can upgrade every year.

Next up is not actually every year. You’re paying $5 a month to upgrade every 15 months. AT&T has terrible upgrade options atm. That’s why I paid off my 11 pro max and just went into the iup. Mischief less of a hassle and guaranteed upgrade every year.

It’s actually to upgrade every 12 months as long as 50% of the installment plan is paid I can upgrade. Their plan sucks. I’ll be paying it off next week. I never did IUP because I don’t like a lot of credit inquiries as they impact my score which I like to keep at over 820. The best way really is just to buy the phones outright and pay in full. I guess I just never realized that Att was charging an extra five dollars a month for that next program it’s not so much the cost of the program as it is the principal why do I have to pay them another $60 to upgrade each year when I’m already paying 50% of my equipment cost. I looked at my bill from my last phone and the five dollar charge wasn’t so upfront so to speak on the bell where it clearly shows it it was actually included in the cost of the equipment so that’s why I just never realized I was paying extra for the ability to upgrade when I pay 50% of the cost. It’ll all work out one way or the other

yes i changed from a shared unlimited plan to a 5g one for 2 lines and a watch. They marketed as i will be paying $5 more to switch all the lines. So i did and they sent me a "what your first 2 bills will look like". Old plan- $13.00 in taxes and fee's, new plan-$57.00 in taxes and fees. You can say i was pissed! I havent got the first bill yet so i cant say if they really follow though with it but i am pretty sure they will. And as soon as they do i will call up. If in fact they dont make it right i will cancel for sure. i will have to pay all my devices off but i dont care, i don't like companies sneaking in fees or not explaining them from the start. There 5g service is terrible in my town, its 20mb! So i wont even be using it and to get charged that much more. hell no! Don't UPGRADE!

Edit-Ya they changed next up, i was on next up for years and never paid a $5 fee. So i decided to pay in full this year to not get the hassle of there never ending fee's.

You're terribly mistaken. It is every 15 months given that you are on a 30 month installment and Next Up lets you upgrade at 50% of it. 30/2 is 15. If you want to upgrade every year, you'll have to make 3 extra payments at the end of the year so that you have paid 15 installments. So at the end of the day, its like you paid $75 to upgrade yearly. At the end, it is cheaper than through the Apple IUP, but only by like $40. If you get AppleCare, then IUP is automatically better.

I only paid 12 payments and have upgraded every year on ATT Next. I have NEVER had to pay 15 installments. I always pay off the remaining 1 installment in August so that when the normal iPhone release cycle is in September i am eligible for the early upgrade. 50% of the balance remains whereby I can either return my phone to ATT or pay it off and sell it on my own. Been doing this for years.

Yeah as have my girlfriend and I. But that ended with the iPhone 11 when AT&T got rid of the AT&T Next Every Year Installment which was a 24 month financing and you could upgrade at 50%. The new installment is 30 months for everyone, and you can opt for AT&T Next for an extra $5 a month so that you can upgrade at 50%, which is now 15 months. Read your installment agreement because it doesn't look like you did

Yes I did read it. I have ATT Next Up which allows to to upgrade when you pay 50% of the equipment cost. Per ATT’s own website it’s the best option for early adopters.

per
  • Requires AT&T Installment Plan with Next Up.
  • Upgrade early by paying off 50% of your current device cost and turn it in for a new one.
  • Never miss out on the newest device.
  • Best option for early adopters.
  • Enjoy this flexibility for only $5 more per month.
More from ATT:

AT&T Installment Plan with Next Up: Price includes monthly smartphone installment payment and separate additional $5/month Next Up upgrade feature charge to be upgrade eligible with qualified trade in when 50% of device cost of the financed device is paid off. Upgrade requires a minimum of 30-90 days on installment depending on credit and other factors (subject to change), account in good standing, trade-in of financed device in good physical and fully functional condition through the AT&T Next Up trade in program (excludes trade in program where you receive an instant credit or AT&T promotion card) and purchase of new eligible smartphone on eligible installment agreement with qualified wireless service. After upgrade, unbilled installments are waived. Next Up $5 monthly payments do not apply toward financed device cost balance, are non-refundable and may be canceled at any time resulting in waiver of right to trade in and upgrade during current installment agreement term. See att.com/next and your Retail Installment Agreement for full details.

Lol, alright man. I look forward to your post in 12 months when AT&T tells you no upgrade until you pay an extra 3 months. As a matter of fact, do this. Dial *639# to check your upgrade eligibility, or just call AT&T.

Thanks for the head's up. I will not be upgrading to an Unlimited 5G plan. I compared the cost of my current shared plan for 3 devices to Unlimited Starter, and it showed just $4.80 more. It sure sounds as if it will really be a lot more than $4.80.

Just checked my ATT account online and it says in order to upgrade I need to pay $559.53 which is about $50 a month for 11 (ELEVEN MONTHS) which is about what I am paying now on my installment plan. sorry not a man, just one very smart woman who does read the fine print. I have the iPhone 12 pro max 256 gig which cost $1199.
