I do some side woodworking stuff and decided to try my hand at a wooden punisher skull American flag.

Whatcha guys think?

that’s my first one, in the middle of 2 thin blue lines and a flag that’s the Texas longhorn colors!

Looks really nice! How did you cut it out? Scroll saw, jig saw, CNC, coping saw, router?

Critically, the stars are pristine and white (it looks like they are stickers?) while the rest of the piece has been torched and has a used, abused look as Punisher would. I would find a way to make the stars match, unless there is some reason why they should be perfect.

Art of this kind frequently includes a message. Is there a message you had in mind?

Not trying to be critically negative, artistically I like it, it’s crafted well, and has an interesting, even appealing appearance aesthetically, but I would never choose to display it in my house because of the symbology intended or not, that I see.

I’m a big Punisher story fan, I know where the character stands and draping a Punisher skull or any skull in the Stars and Stripes is symbology that does not appeal to me, unless I wanted to be critical of the US, which I do often. But I would still not display it. ;)

Ah, the cornhole guy.

You are correct. Cornhole guy, and an apple fan :D

Strictly from an artistic standpoint, I think it’s a beauty.
Thank you very much! Trying to come up with new things to make that people would find appealing

Looks great! Nice work, @npolly0212
Thank you very much. I appreciate it!

What is it? Wall art?
Just something I made with some wood for a customer. Just wanted it made so I did it - I think he's hanging it in his mancave but not really sure!

Thank you very much! This one was cut with a cnc by a friend but have a few others I cut with a jigsaw as well.

And yes I completely agree about the stars, Think next time ill use a stencil and leave the stars the color of the wood and burn it to match the other stripes! Thinking about purchasing a CNC machine myself to make it easier and carve out the stars!

Yup... love the design! That is a nice piece that you have or made or both...
Thank you! This was the first one of these that I have made so far and have had a ton of messages about them. Just trying to find other things out there people may find interest in to start making :D

Not a message myself, I just got asked if I could make on for a customer and was capable of it and have since gotten multiple messages for them of different kinds, one with the thin blue line for the police, team colors etc.

Thanks. It’s not my personal taste but truly appreciate the design and skills to create it. The coloring is pretty impressive. Really well done.
Thank you. Actually about to make a big wooden american flag for a coworker as well for the office. Will post those when I do it.

It would be interesting to find out what the appeal of this symbology (Punisher skull + US flag) is to your customers. Skulls mean death, wearing a flag is usually patriotic. I tend to think it’s more than just an aesthetic appeal. Why I think it would be interesting to know if this symbol is regarded as pro-America or critical of America or if there is no thought at all involved, just aesthetic appeal. I could easily imagine an anti-war movement embracing this, or a right wing play in the woods militia in which case the punisher skull would make more sense. ;)

I used to have some Jake skulls on my Z06, it was the mascot symbol for Corvette racing, and they used it because they considered themselves sort of a pirate race team, i.e., "take no prisoners" sort of attitude.

I dug on it :) Note the cool design of using the Corvette crossed flags as the eyes :D

I guess that people like the punisher skull and like america and want them combined. I just make what they want haha.
