In my situation, getting it ready just meant they had received order. Didn’t change until they told me it was back ordered. Next day (last Friday) it shipped. I ordered in the first half hour on the 3rd.

I received an update email as well. It says they're still working on the order, but it shows an estimated delivery of May 22–24 for all my items. I ordered a little over 24 hours ago.

My AT&T order, which was completed yesterday at 5:30pm EST, just got updated with a “good to go” email. Delivery date in the email says May 22-24, and my card has been charged. In my experience with several past AT&T orders, including the original AirPods that were out of stock everywhere, shipping is just around the corner. My wife’s birthday is the 24th, so this will be the perfect gift.

Whenever i tried it would take the discount off at the very last step, so not sure if it was even possible
Zero reason to be concerned about that. That disclaimer is in every accessory "good to go" order email I've ever see through AT&T, and each order was received in the delivery window in the email. For example, it was in my Apple Watch Series 3 LTE "good to go" email and I got my shipping email the very next day. I also ordered the original AirPods through AT&T, got the exact same disclaimer in my "good to go" email, and they shipped out only a few hours later. All this to say you'll have your order in a few days.

Ordered 1:00PM yesterday (5/18) & received instant confirmation email, received the here’s an update on your order email today (5/19) around 5:30pm today. Just clicked the link in that email & states preparing to ship with 5/21 - 5/23 expected receipt date. & before ordering, I wanted to confirm via some source that what I seen was accurate after so many places claiming to have it in stock only for it to be a lie. Lol

Mine still says “In Progress”. I did not do Express shipping but still have the same ship dates as you. Hopefully it changes to preparing to ship soon
Nope. I clicked back & forth between regular & expressing shipping to see if there was a difference in the estimated delivery dates. The dates didn’t change at all so I chose the free/regular shipping.
