I am still using my late 2010 MacBook Air. I would like a newer version but haven't found a reason to change yet. The MacBook's are too small for my palms to rest comfortably next to the trackpad. The rMBP's are too heavy. I assumed I was going to upgrade at this time until we were notified the Air's were not getting the latest processors. So here I sit with a six year old unit with the A & S keys lettering worn off looking for a good reason to change.

Something is wrong then. I mean as long as it does everything else fine, keep it.

I went out today and bought the latest 13" Retina MacBook Pro. WOW, what a difference!!!

Gee!!! I still have my early 2008 MBP with 4 gb. It's a real work horse and hate to part with it/However, I have been "looking" at the MacBook 12" and MacBook Air 13". Anyone want to buy MBP?

I have a 2012 mba 13" 1.8/250/8

When I bought it, I said to myself, hopefully it will last me 5 years before I upgrade. Mine is only 4 years old, but it's the best computer I've owned, and I'm sure it will last me another 3 years assuming it doesn't die on me.

It's amazing what MacBook is still capable of for those who own a much older model.

Have a 2011 Air with 4gb and 256. The computer still runs well and I still use it on a daily basis. The battery life is not the greatest. I, like many others, am waiting for a MB pro update before buying a new laptop. The Air will be handed down to my daughter who will use it for her school.

I've noticed my fan runs more than it used to. A few years back I took the back off to replace the battery and at the time blew out dust. Perhaps it's time to do that again.

However, if any of you have upgraded to El Capitan like I did and have noticed more fan action, please reply so I can see if I'm not the only one.

A lot more fan action for me, particularly in Skype... see above :) I run smcFanControl so I can see what the temp and the fans are doing...

I ran El Capitan on my 2010 MBA 2GB/(upgraded)240GB and the fans came on a lot with just doing normal stuff. I went back to Mavericks, which still receives updates (for now) and the MBA runs much better. Only with watching some video the fans come on, but for normal type/browse stuff not. No upgrades for me yet, I am doing fine with what I have at the moment.

I am still using my 2010 11'' macbook air with 2G RAM and 64SSD. I always upgrade it to the latest OSX and it works well. Of course, it is not my primary used macbook cos I have a 27'' retina iMac and a macbook pro. It work as a "netbook" on my bed..

I have a 2010 11inch Air with 1.4ghz core 2 duo and 2(!) Gb of RAM. I use it for hours a day browsing and some Microsoft Office.

Usually it is fine but with more than a few tabs open on Safari it can bog down with 'Kernel task' completely overloading the CPU. There doesn't seem to be an obvious fix for this even if I was inclined to start modifying system files.

I am hoping to go to the other extreme soon and buy a new MBP, if they are released soon, to replace this and my 10 year old Mac Pro. Even if I do though I will not sell this as it is perfect for taking to work and taking on trips.

Seriously, if they had put a retinal screen in the Air by now only crazy people would buy a Macbook.

My wife still uses her 2010 stock MBA to this day for Scrivener or when she wants to type a longer email than what she typically does on her iPad.

It was originally mine - I gave it to her when I switched to Linux - but I've decided to do an about face and will very likely buy us both the latest one (new or refurbished). I love the 11 inch version: everything from the keyboard to the form factor and want to get another one before Apple kills them off.

My first Mac was a 2010 11" MBA. I loved that computer, but gave it to a family member in 2012 to get the 15" rMBP.

I recently acquired a 2010 11" top spec BTO MBA again and after some work on it got it up and running smoothly with El Capitan. It's amazing how well it runs considering it is 6 years old.

I replaced the SSD with an OWC 120G Aura Pro 6G because the stock SSD was showing signs of failing. The battery only has 160 cycles but drains in about 2 hours. Is this normal for a battery of this age, even without many cycles? I'm debating replacing the battery at Apple.
