have a Xs Max 256gb and thinking of down grading to 11 126gb. Would save $30 per month. Is it a big downgrade ?

It’s not a downgrade it has a new A13 chip and new cameras.
I'm doing exactly this.
I currently have a 256GB XS Max that I pay $60.33 per month for on the iPhone Upgrade Program. I did my pre-approval for a 128GB iPhone 11 as I'm currently only using about 75GB. That ended up being $37.41 per month for, what in my mind, is a generally lateral move to tide me over to the big upgrades in 2020.
I'm thinknig about a similar move. Going to go from the Xs to 11. I don't think I'd use the 3 cameras enough (barely use telephoto other than Portrait mode) and the savings for each month is really nice. Plus the colors are great!

I'm in the same boat with a XS Max 256 and believe the iP11 is the better overall value, until next year, at which I feel the entire lineup will receive substantial changes and upgrades at which point I'll probably jump back to the premium version iPhone.
True, though only part of the story as the OLED phones render @3x images, while the XR and 11 do @2x. This means every 'point' of an image is made of 9 pixels worth of information on the 11 Pros, but only 4 on the 11. Is it noticeable? Yes, it definitely is, just like if you put the 8 and 8 plus next to each other. Is it a deal breaker? Maybe to a real screen snob. Of course there are also other inherent qualities in favour of both OLED and LCD so depending on your specific preferences you could make a strong case for either. To me, the panel used in the iPhone 7 and 8 plus is still the pinnacle of smartphone display quality, with the absolute best balance of properties among all iPhones.A 458 PPI OLED screen has almost the identical visual pixel density as a 326 PPI LCD screen due to green sub pixel rendering. Basically, the ppi spec for OLEDs is a lie, or at least can't be compared pixel to pixel with an LCD.

I’m doing the same I have the XS Max, and it’s definitely too big for me! Yes the screen size is great but for me it’s not pocket friendly! I will miss the telephoto lense on the XS Max, but think the ultrawide will more than make up for it!
In the UK the Iup prices are crazy! Currently £61.50 for the XS Max 64GB, the 11 Pro is £58.50 and the PRO max is £68 !! I can get the 128 GB 11 for £42!! Thinking the saving can help justify me dipping my toes back into the Apple Watch arena after selling my series 0 after a few months!
