StorEDGE

I picked up the 128GB version for about $145 from B&H. The card is great. I have a 2012 13" Macbook Air with 128GB SSD and this has doubled my storage. It does stick out a bit, 1/8 inch or so, but is not in the way and I have no concern catching it on anything. The card is fast... like previous posts said, not as fast as my internal SSD, but much faster than other SD cards. It stays mounted during sleep wake and after shutdown start up. I have not run the batt down, so I can't answer that one. It is more expensive than a normal SD card, but less than buying a 240GB replacement SSD.

Just ordered mine in 128GB ... To Canada from BH Photo Video... including shipping and duty it came to $178, which is still lower than the suggested retail price. Not bad!

When it gets here I can finally stop worrying about my hard drive filling up.

It seems like Apple's various software (iPhoto, iTunes) loves to just continually grow, even when I do nothing! I have almost 2gb less than I did this morning, even though I haven't downloaded or installed anything! Scary when you are at 10 gb free!

Psyched for this! I was looking for it since before it existed! Much better than the solutions that rely on (slower) microSD which cap at 64 GB.

You running Time Machine?

Yes, in fact. But obviously to an external drive... Does Time Machine use space randomly?

Yeah. It keeps data on the local drive as well as the remote. If the local drive starts to get full the OS moves out older backup copies automagically, but it does take up space on your machine as well.

Does the storedge fit inside the imac 2012 slot as well? If so, how much will it stick out? Also if I format as fat32 it will still be detected in both osx and bootcamp windows right?

There's a big sale on the PNY storEDGE's on newegg. $54.99 for the 64gb after rebate. I've never seen them this low - gonna give it a whirl.

Edit: Looked up BH Photo Video as others suggested in the thread and their sale may be better depending where you live. To Canada its $85.10 vs. $79.41 (with $20 rebate) on newegg.

External hard drives do, so I assume the same is true for SD cards. But ExFAT also works on both, but without the size restrictions, so is probably a better option.

thanks for all the post, i think im getting one from bh.com for my rMBP 15" 2012
i have 256 GB on SSD and i run parallels a lot for university ( Visual Studio ). I think that this would be great for move my parallels to this external drive since those writing and reading speeds are acceptable for non heavy windows users.

128GB is great deal.

but upgrading to owc 480GB SSD on christmas.

B&H has the 128GB for $98!
No tax and no shipping!

Amazon has raised the price to $150.

I just bought a 128Gb StorEdge from BH and I'm very frustrated, in my Oct 2013 13" rMBP it sticks out way too far. I'd expected the little rim as shown in the pictures but I can read the darned writing on it, it probably protrudes 3/8" or so, way too much that I can leave it there and feel confident.

Very frustrated, I'll be calling BH about a return.

Just to verify... am I supposed to shove it in further? Is the a MBA 13" in this picture?

Mine stuck out much further than that and every other picture I've seen.

The problem is the rMBP. That's how deep the slot it.
On mine the top of the "128" is slightly cut off but the "GB" is total exposed.
The card was designed for the non-retina MacBooks and the Airs.
Still sticks out less than a normal SD card though and the price is right right now.

I'm just surprised, I've searched and searched and can't find a pic anywhere of it in a 13" rMBP. It just sticks out that little bit too far to feel safe leaving it in there semi-permanently. Seems they say it is better for the MBA and MBP, just wish it was clearer regarding the rMPB.

Well, in all fairness. It works as advertised on my 15 inch rMBPro.

AND on the (updated) packaging, it does state the following:

StorEDGE is ideal for:
- 13-inch MacBook Air
- MacBook Pro
- 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display

However, the packaging I got today only says "For Use in MacBook Computers**" though, on the back is where it details the compatibility. I'm also assuming this was printed before they realized the compatibility issue with the 13 inch rMBP considering this was printed in 2013, but it doesn't specify that it's only fully compatible with the 15-inch rMBP.

This is how mine looks:

Just canceled my niftydrive order since the 64gb version is only 40 bucks on amazon!
Win.

Thanks All

hello!

I just received mine today and it does not work!!! i have a mid 2009 13" macbook pro and it shows up but it is read only! in disk utility everything is grayed out so i cannot format it or anything.

My early 2011 13" macbook can read and write just fine. Anyone know what the issue is? Please help me out! I got this hoping my wife would be able to get some more memory out of it!

I went from the last gen MacBook Pro Retina 15" (and it sat flush as all the pics show) to the late 2013 15" MacBook Pro Retina and it sticks out pretty far now. I can confirm the new model MBPR have a shallower card slot. The card works but does not sit neat and flush as seen in their ads. You can also see a page on their "Support" site stating it.
