So, is anybody using the G-Tech Mini 500 gb drive with their Air over USB?

Just want to know if it's reliably bus powered over USB

Haven't purchased the 500GB pre-assembled one, but I've been using a 320GB G-Drive mini purchased from the Apple Store and a 500GB unit I made by popping a Western Digital Scorpio Blue drive into a G-Drive mini enclosure. Works great with my Rev. A and B MacBook Airs.

So is it trivial to swap out the drives in those G-Tech enclosures?

How did you find the enclosure then?

I just bought a 500 gb G Tech Mini for $229 today. Seems like a pretty good deal especially when you can reuse the enclosure later.

There was a non-functional 160GB mini on eBay for $25, I took a chance and it was the drive that was broken instead of something wrong with the enclosure's electronics.

It's pretty easy to swap drives, though there's a lot more screws than on a normal external enclosure swap. Make sure you label where everything goes, I think there were about 20+ screws holding it together and the case comes apart in pieces.

First the six screws on the bottom, then slide out the inner case, then separate the drive board and drive from the inner case/heatsink, then the drive from the board and pop the new one in. Probably the best 2.5" enclosure I've ever used, built really solidly and looks great to boot!

Yes I picked it up on ebay and it arrived today. Everything looks fine and it was sealed upon delivery.
