I called to see if I could put my account "on hold" until my apple store had more inventory. When he asked why, I explained that I bought a model of the IPhone 4S I didn't want (32GB White) just to test out service and 3G speeds with intentions of returning it within the 30 days.
(I wanted a 16GB white which they were out of).

I told him I loved the service, and was sold/ready to leave Sprint, but I had to wait for apple to get me the model I wanted. I did not want to spend $300 on a phone, $200 was enough.

He said he couldn't put it on hold, but if a price difference of 100 bucks would have him keep a customer, he would have no problem giving me a 100 dollar credit! Not to mention, he said I have a month to exchange and if I find a 16GB, I'd still get to keep the credit.

Hello $99 IPhone 4S/free 45 days of service!

I currently was with sprint, but the speeds/service SUCKED. After giving them a week or so, I switched to AT&T w/ a 23% corporate discount and never looked back. Now I pull 3-4MBps anyway regularly and have 450 min/2GB/unlimited text and mobile to mobile for $70 a month!

This is encouraging. Might have to try this since I don't really want to wait until Nov 30th to finally upgrade.

Think its better to call or go to an AT&T store?

well, I've tried calling AT&T twice now and both agents said "there is absolutely no way we can move the date." Next time I try to call, I will mention that people have been able to convince representatives to do so. Or maybe I should just go to an AT&T store.

I called AT&T and was told they would not move up my eligibility date. I asked the agent to backdate my contract signing date… and she said it was inappropriate AKA I can do it, but not for you.

That said, maybe she saw I already had the iPhone 4S on my account. :p

I'm from Pittsburgh also. I'm going to try a physical AT&T store in the area, and let you know how it goes.

I'm a very long time customer with a high bill and never a late payment.

AT&T system had me Feb 2012. Took three calls and a bit of time for them to research & correct their error. I pre-ordered at full discount on the 7th.

Each of AT&T CSRs & manager were very accommodating.

My preorder was so messed up it took me two days and multiple calls to straighten it out. Sunday morning 10/16 they called me telling me it was fixed and they were giving me the full upgrade price. I had never asked for it.... :)

Mine was 11/18 also.

Christ, it's three weeks. Wait and stop throwing a temper tantrum.

This.

I love how everybody wants to be the exception. People sign a contract, then b#@h and moan when a company tries to hold them to it.

But if AT&T makes any change that hurts them (throttling, potentially removing unlimited data, change to the texting plan pricing), they'll immediately start arguing about the sanctity of the contract and how greedy AT&T is.

My line is eligible on 12/3 so I'll give AT&T a call around 11/15 and see if they're willing to move up my date. If it doesn't work I wait a couple of weeks to upgrade and then give my wife my iPhone 4. That's IF my current order doesn't go through. If my current order stays put then I'll simply save my upgrade for the next iPhone iteration.

It seems to be the way of the world of these days unfortunately.

My wife got hers moved up from 11/24/11 to be able to preorder it on 10/7 fully subsidized and receive it on launch day.

She asked to speak to a retention agent and explained that the ETF was a lot cheaper than an unsubsidized phone. Having said that, she then told the agent that she was aware there was a deal AT&T was cutting to people who were prepared to leave and that she wanted that deal.

After a few minutes on hold, they came back and did it for her, only she had to be prepared to order the phone on the spot.

That AND people expecting compensation for threatening to break their contract.

I started this thread as informational. I'm looking for people who have been able to move their contract. I'm not looking for opinions. Start a new thread if you want to discuss your opinions. Otherwise, you post this, then someone else posts their opinion, and the whole point of the thread is lost. This contributes *nothing* to the purpose of the thread. Please do not reply to this, let it go, so that the thread can continue with its original purpose. If you want to argue it with me, PM me.

Unfortunately that's not how it works. You started a thread - and people are entitled to comment - especially when it's pertinent to the topic. Hate to break it to you - but you can't control a thread - you can only decide whether or not to post yourself.

My discounted upgrade date was Nov 20. I called ATT the day pre-orders began to see if they would bump my date up. It was a no go.

Today, I started a new billing cycle and was in the 1 month window, so I thought I would try again to see.

I called 611. The rep greeted me as a loyal iPhone customer. When she said that I knew I was in. I asked that considering I was a loyal iPhone customer, if there was a possibility of bumping my date up one month.

My upgrade date was changed to Oct 20. New iPhone is now ordered. Ships 1-2 weeks.
