Ive ticked the setting, and it seems to take. But the watch never unlocks the Mac

I turned the feature off and then back on again and mine now unlocks my Mac (watchOS 9)

This bug is in many betas. The common solution is log out all your devices from iCloud and log back in.

For those not in beta, yeah sometimes it doesn’t work and Airdrop doesn’t work because of radio interference. That’s just the hard problem of having so many devices in your home and neighborhood all clashing on the electromagnetic spectrum. It’s why my 4G sucks so bad whenever so many people are in my hood on Friday/Saturday night.

I think Airdrop has been failing as a whole on iOS 16 and Ventura since beta 2 came out. Like it sees people but would not send at all......
