[doublepost=1508763322][/doublepost]Why would someone financing a phone get priority over paid in full cash. It's absurd

You do not understand why Apple would want to incentivize a customer to sign up for a 2 year commitment, wherein they are obligated to pay an extra $200 for Apple Care+ (something that is optional for cash customers) and creates an easy path for that customer to be part of a potentially "endless" purchasing cycle by upgrading every year (and thereby virtually eliminating their customer acquisition cost)? You seriously do not see why Apple would want to do that?

Also, keep in mind that the financing is not coming from Apple. It is done through Citizens Bank. Apple is collecting the money on that phone whether the customer makes the payments or not. Citizens is left holding the bag if a customer defaults; not Apple. It is in Apple's best interest to sell phones, in any manner they can. How a customer pays for it is immaterial, so long as a sale occurs. Unlike you, Apple could care less if you understand the time value of money (and therein take advantage of a 0% interest loan) or if you want to fork over all your money upfront.

I concur with the other posts that the pre-approval does not provide any real advantage over other methods of payments, but it would make total sense if Apple decided to go that route. I for one, hope they do.

Someone mentioned they spoke to Citizens One and they are opening pre approvals @ 3PM EST. Guess we will see.

Because cash customers abuse the system. Plain and simple. If there were any incentives at all for cash purchase the scalping business would boom. One per customer doesn’t cut it when you can pay a homeless person $20 to come in with you and make a purchase.

Wish I would have known that before staying up super late. Had to be up at 6 this morning. I don’t get why they have to be so secretive with their info. It’s nice they’re letting go through the pre-approval process early but give us a time so we’re not sitting here waiting trying to guess.

I don't know why you stayed up. Doing it the second it comes out doesn't get you priority over other people doing it the day before pre orders.

Just did it. Took awhile. Got a message acknowledging the fraud alert on my credit file and said the bank would call within 24 hrs.

Done and preapproved! So all we have to do is open the App Store and it will pop up when the preorder goes live?

Just got pre approval. System seemed to run okay. FYI...I have my credit reports frozen. Didn’t need to open them for approval.

I'll remember that for next year. Mine is/was frozen and I unfrozen it for this. I knew Citizens uses Experian so thats the only one I unfroze.
