Mine was 9/14... I checked last month and it showed the full price for an upgrade... I checked today, it showed full price again... I refreshed and tried it again, and the price updated to the $199 etc contract prices!

I'm fairly certain you dont need to wait until the EXACT day to upgrade, their is typically some wiggle room of a week or more.

For those on AT&T who had their upgrade date moved up, are you also able to get your iPhone unlocked? Selling your old one unlocked is more valuable, and I'm not sure how the unlock process works once you upgrade to the new iPhone. The last time I had the phone unlocked before I upgraded.

Yes. I got my 5 on launch day and was able to have AT&T unlock my phone last week and it is showing I am available for the full discount on upgrades.

Got my 5 on launch day too. AT&T approved the unlock last month. I'm still not so sure it is unlocked though. I did the factory restore and then restored my backup as AT&T suggested, but I got nothing in iTunes saying my phone is unlocked like I've seen a lot of people talk about.

I also tried putting a verizon sim card in it and it didn't work. Is that because Verizon is not GSM?

Anyway, when I look up my unlock request number on the AT&T site, it tells me that they approved it. I just wish I could get some other verification, before I start trying to sell it as an unlocked phone.

As I posted in an identical thread yesterday,if your date is after the release date, you are eligible. My upgrade was 9/22 and called AT&T in July to ask if they could move my date forward so I could order. They said your date in now the 1st of the month.I called again in August to verify and again yesterday. Still the case. Even the website shows I'm eligible.

The Verizon SIM won't work to test it because it's not GSM

You need to find a buddy with a T-Mobile SIM and use that to test the SIM. That's what I did to verify my unlock, although I DID have the iTunes message unlike you. But I still wanted to verify with a T-Mobile SIM.

I just this minute did the unlock on mine after having AT&T approve it last week. I got the Congratulations message in iTunes. I would definitely find someone with a Tmobile sim to check yours before selling it as unlocked.

DENIED to move Upgrade from 10/8

I've been upgrading every year. And last year AT&T credited my account the difference to get the iPhone 5S.

But this year, they won't budge on moving me up from October 8th????

WTF???

Is there a Veteran AT&T Customer Support Line I can use? I'm totally bummed I can't get it on Day-1 this year.

If you have to wait until that long, I'd just wait until I see the refurb's for $149 and get one of those.

I did it with the 4. Waited until the beginning of November and got it for $149, rather than, $199.

Or keep calling until one of them gets the hint that you're going to take your business elsewhere.

Eligible now, got 5s on release day last year.

How is this possible ? Did you call AT&T and ask or is this just a mistake on their part ?
I don't get it.
I too have a 5s (bought it on launch day) and I just checked my eligibility on apple.com and it's showing September 21, 2015.

3 lines on my account, 1 of them is always up for an upgrade.

My contract/upgrade dates are on 9/21. Am I bummed, I guess but since I'm switching carriers, I have to visit the ATT store to switch anyways. I can live with the delay, it is only a phone after all :)

I'm confused.. for ATT it says my contract: "Ends Sep 27, 2014"

But right next to it, it says: "Upgrade Eligible
Congratulations! This line is eligible for an AT&T NEXT installment plan upgrade. Or upgrade with a 2-year service agreement and a $40 upgrade fee."

I guess they let you do it early?

My contract's been up since July, and another line just upgraded to the 5s last October, plus 3 other feature phone voice only lines. After hearing about Sprint's "iPhone for life" program, I called AT&T just to see what they can offer me. Very surprisingly, they're allowing my line with the 5s full discounted upgrade to the iPhone 6 and upgrade fee waived, just 11 months into the contract. My line that has a fully fulfilled contract? Nada, WTH lol.

Unfortunately, I can't upgrade until October 1.
Does anyone think I will still be able to get one on that day? Do you think it will be back ordered at that time? :apple:

You are good to go. You will get the cheaper price, be charged a 1 time $40 upgrade fee...assuming you sign a 2 year contract.

Mine says it ends on the 14th

I bought the Iphone 5 on 2 year contract with Pre order.

For some reason its two days too early...

It does say iam upgrade eligible but when I check the upgrade they want full price for a 5C

Iam hoping when they change the site tonight It wont matter and it will just let me preorder the 6. It would be pretty lame if i had to wait two days.

Just checked and I'm not eligible for cheap upgrade until 9/21. Am on AT&T and considering going with the Next plan as I think by 9/21 it will be back ordered. Anyone else in a similar boat?

This is exactly what AT&T wants you to do and... I have decided to do.

What I found odd is on my number , I got offers for both. 749 to buy outright ,the 6plus or 499 plus the 20 months

Wife's line just shows the 499 plus the 20 months

We bought both 5s straight up last year so have been out of contract for almost a year. We had extra money and wanted to see what apple did with the 6 before signing another 2 year contract.

I think you should be able to get one in a store around that day. Online orders might be anywhere between 1-2 weeks behind. Again pure speculation, based on prior experience.

It's really bad.

I also spoke to several people to buy out my contract (ETF would be about $90 for the final month) and they said that I could do it to unlock phone but NOT to upgrade. In other words, I could be out of contract and have no obligation but AT&T won't take that as a reason to allow me to upgrade. That is how REALLY bad they want people to move onto the Next plan.

So I might have to go Next as well and drop my unlimited data (I only use 3GB/mo for both lines). But I might as well do it on the line that has the much longer contract length remaining. The phone companies want to get away from the whole subsidy model and Next, Edge etc are ways to do it. Might need to investigate T-mobile lol. But I think their coverage is terrible.

Looking at Next and assuming the charge is $40/mo and I save $10 on data fees, that's $30/mo * 12 or $360. But I don't get to sell phone. So every year I give ATT $360 for the latest and greatest model. Right now, I pay $400 up front but I sell my old one for about $200. So my annual cost of getting new phones is $200. So with next, you pay a $160 premium.

2 lines on our family plan were eligible for 9/18 and 9/21. I checked this morning and all of them are now eligible for upgrade. Verizon is thirsty for another 2 years.

I hope so. I don't mind waiting a couple weeks, I've waited this long already anyway lol. But because my current iPhone is broken, I am hoping I can just get one in store somewhere and not have to order it online and wait for it to ship.

I like to upgrade and buy online and do an in-store pickup. Less of a hassle for me.

Don't forget to subtract the $40 upgrade fee you don't have to pay.

I too have the unlimited and don't really need it. 10GB will be more than enough according to my usage history and I feel I use my phone allot.

If you go to a value share plane, you can save $15 or $25 off your monthly bill and that adds up too.

Also, with NEXT you won't be under contract so you could pay off your phone at anytime and leave. Sell your phone or trade it in with new carrier.
