With the price drop, it might be a good entry point for someone who simply needs it for the occasional run or track their steps?
Or can you find a series 4 on sale for a few dollars more that would make it a better buy?

Good question! My partner has a Fitbit that's started to fail, no longer tracking sleep and other things.

She asked about an Apple Watch, but £399 is a bit of a jump up while £199 seems more reasonable.

Is the 5 really twice as good as the 3?

The Series 3 is still a great buy, even at $199. I’d definitely get one again. Battery life on mine is phenomenal on OS 6.

I think the Series 4 is more than a ‘few dollars’ over the Series 3. That said, the Series 3 should be fine, it’s not like it’s not a viable watch, it still is, it just doesn’t have some of the latest technology. If Somebody wanted it for basic health tracking, that’s plenty sufficient. The real difference between the Series 3 and S4, is the larger display and the 64 bit architecture.

I bought a Series 3 several months ago and don’t regret it at all. I’m not super interested in the new features (and certainly won’t pay the extra for them). My Series 3 was heavily discounted anyway, so, it was good for me. I also wanted to try having an Apple Watch, as I’ve never had a wearable device before. Series 3 is totally fine.

Series 3 with a new price is great for price conscious people. It's still working quite well. GPS, Water-Proof. For someone who's using FitBit this will be even better.

I did. $220 for the cellular model, and then 5% back (Prime Rewards)...why not? I actually had the Series 4 a while and found the S3 to have (slightly) better battery life and definitely better GPS accuracy. I do miss the new watch faces though, and Siri is still damn slow.
