My orders won't go through online at all for IUP, so I plan on heading to the stores early on the Friday to hopefully buy it. Do they usually open earlier for release days? The Apple store near me is inside a mall that opens at 10am. Would stock be an issue? How was the release for XS last year? I'm switching back to iPhone from a Note9.

I ordered my phone for in-store pickup between 8am - 8:30am. My store normally opens at 10am, so im assuming they will open at 8am for launch. I don't think stock will be an issue honestly. Depending on the phone you want of course. If you want the new color, you'll be SOL

Yeah I skipped pre-order, since I'm pretty sure stock will not be a problem fro a Pro Max next weekend.

I live in Philly, so tons of options of availability, as there have been the past few years.

I haven't heard of many people not getting phones in store. Just depends on your particular store's inventory vs customer traffic on that day. I have seen stores near me that sold out early morning, while other's had stock throughout the day. Also depends on what's the hot color/model/storage combo for the year.

Thanks, that's a bit reassuring. I do want the midnight green but I'm not hell-bent on it or anything. As long as I get a Pro Max 256 in any color I'd be a happy trooper.

The green might be harder to come by but if you're okay with any color I cant see any issue. They did have a way last year where they would update the stock in the morning and you could reserve that way. If i'm recalling right our local Apple Stores wouldn't even let you in line unless you had a reservation.

I'm mad I didn't do in store pickup since I have a meeting like 2 blocks from the Apple store on Friday the 20th, I called Apple to try and change my order from being delivered to my office to in store pick up and they said I have to cancel my order and re-order for in store pickup, which I am not going to do.

I haven't preordered since the 6S and have yet to have an issue getting one on launch day or the following day. Once these phones crossed the $1000 mark, it became a lot easier to get an unlocked one in 256gb because people aren't financing those.

I was fully out on the iPhone 11 this year and was going to look for a good deal on an XS...but I just realized this morning that Apple is offering up to $400 dollars trade in on my current X. This is enough of a discount for me to want to go with the 11 now.

I didn't pre-order and will probably try to get one in a local Apple store next week. I am assuming they would do the trade in in store as well, correct? Not sure if anyone knows.

Looking at the trade in website it looks like you can do it in store also. I would think at the minimum they'd at least set you up with the trade in option like online where you pay outright and then they send you a kit to return your trade in and then credit your payment method back.

I was thinking about doing that because initially I wanted to grab a silver which generally I don't have trouble finding around here (based on last year's experience and with the iPhone X). However, I fell in love with the midnight green. Being the new color on the block, I didn't want to take the chance.

EDIT: Just as I thought. I went back to see availability and my exact choice is already not available at my local Apple Store. Thank god I pre-ordered.

I want to see the mid night green in person first - mostly i'll get that. Had silver iphone X and space grey XS. So it would be a nice change
I'm surprised to see the pre order delivery date is still 20Sep for all colors. may be its not selling as much as the previous versions.. Typically within a couple of hours, the delivery date gets pushed back.

I went to my local Apple Store last year to get a S4 Watch. It was pretty late, maybe 10:30am and they had a decent stock of most things, lower stock of certain premium models. There was a guy outside checking stock before you go in but there wasn't really a queue, just people waiting for the next person to be available.

If you get there at 8am you should be able to get anything you want, a little later and you probably won't get a green one.

As for opening time; usually all stores will open at 8am. The one near me is in a shopping mall but they must pay them to open the doors early once a year or something, I think most are the same because I know of at least 2 cities in the UK where this happens.

I actually just went back to apple.com and was able to pre-order the midnight green 11 pro max for launch day delivery. So i pulled the trigger. Theyre going to send the trade in kit to my house. Problem solved :)

Thanks for the reply though!

I plan to just go to my local apple store and upgrade, torn between green and silver 256gb so I want to see them in person for myself before making a choice...besides my X 256gb is still doing great and I cant wait for IOS13 so I'm not too hard pressed to get the device on launch day.

The last time I preordered the UPS driver got to my house so late I could have walked to the store and bought one.
