Don't think i can claim to be camping out, but I normally get to my local store at around 4AM to make sure I get the model/colour that i want :)
It's always fun talking to everyone in the line and meeting cool people there, would recommend it!

Yep it's a lot of fun whether you camp out or get to your local Apple store early morning. I don't understand why people care what about of Android fans think of this behaviour, or are bothered by Samsung putting it in their pathetic adverts while copying everything else Apple does.

Personally, "camping out" overnight is a stretch. Now, if I really, really, really wanted a phone, I might wake up super early the day of and wait in line for a couple of hours.

Actually, when ipad2 came out, I was at our local mall. The mall doors open 1 hour before the stores open for walkers. So, a bunch of us were waiting to be let in. Unfortunately, they opened another door first, and when we ran and got there, there was already a big line. I felt slightly embarrassed running through the mall to get an ipad, but hey, I had the day off, so no big deal.

Who says it's android fans? I'm sure most people find it ridiculous. I camped out to get Xbox 360 on release day, but why camp when you can just preorder or walk in early? This is not 2008.

It also depends on supply...

After the ipad2 experience, I was expecting all stores to be completely sold out with no chance of waltzing into a store casually to get one for at least a month. However, ipad3 was a much smoother release.

I can't speak to iphone 5 release, but perhaps Apple learned their lessons about supply on launch dates.

I walked in last year day one, waited 10 minutes and got it. No preorder or anything. This was in a relatively populated area in Cali too.

Hmm this would mean that iPhone is not as popular as it used to be...

with pre-order why would anyone "Camp out"

Hi - I love apple and I love iPhones even more.

Anyone camping out for their iPhone?!

I would love to be one of the first

Go apple !!!!

Nope. I'll either order it online and have FedEx deliver it to my door. Or I'll wait and go to an AT&T store and pick one up after the craziness dissipates.

I camped out for the last couple product launches and I noticed at the line only started getting long at like 8:30. I could of showed up at like 8 and just walked in and out in less than a half hour. Not sure this year, if I have class that morning depending on the time then probably not this year for me!

when the iPhone 3G came out I was awaiting in line for the pay and go service that O2 provided.. They're was 3 of us in line at 8AM, went back later the day and there was a que right into town to the o2 store..

but i won't be doing it again.. I never camped out I just went real early.

Hello,

I can't pre order, no credit card. I just called AT&T. If I was planning to go early in the morning on launch day. When would that be, will they tell at the keynote?

I also live close enough to an apple store in Syracuse ny. If I wanted to camp out in Syracuse, do u think I would have to get there early in the morning like let's say 5:00 or would that be too late?

I usually have to wait a couple of weeks to get the latest iPhone do to supply and demand. This year I would love to get one early!

Nope. Were I younger and it wasn't 11 billion degrees out around here, I might consider doing it once just for the hell of it. That's why I waited in line for one launch at an Apple store--for the experience. But for the last few launches, I just preorder and wait for UPS. :)

I love Apple products but I can think of a million better things to do with my time than stand in line and wait for a product. I'm embarrassed for people when I see them doing this. Sad to think they have nothing more important to do with their lives than wait for the next phone.

I'd try to get to the store as early as you possibly can. Well, not TODAY or anything, but I'd do a few drive-bys of the store and as soon as you see people lining up the night before (assuming it's allowed--some properties will only allow people on site between certain hours), jump in behind 'em. Good luck!

The pre-order won't be available most likely until Friday. Did you think you could pre-order something that hasn't even been announced yet?

Well, your "embarrassing" is another guy's fun. No big deal.

Beh,..... BEEEEHHHHHHHHHH,.....BEEHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

It always amuses me to see all the nice iSheep outside Apple stores for iPhone launches.

If you have time to camp out to get a Smartphone, then you have too much time on your hands and don't need a Smartphone. Go get a job.

God bless us greedy Americans. You have unemployment as near all time highs (still), rampant homeless & poverty in this country (and in the world) and people in other countried being gased ruthlessly and yet there are still those people who's biggest problem is when should I go campout so I can get my hands on the new iPhone.

No. When I see those lines, I find it embarrassing. I own several Apple products, and when I see those lines, it almost validates what non apple owners think of us.
It doesn't matter what other people think. If you want to camp, you can go camp.
