Since iOS18, Mail is abysmal, emails can take forever to load in the app, on iPhone and iPad.
When I have attachments, forget it. I can't even be bothered to wait for them. I have to open and close app several times and even then they've not downloaded. Never ever had this problem prior to 18, and stupidly believed it would be addressed in 18.0.1. It's a real problem when you get a load of work emails with attachments, but even body of mail can also take time on some. Also the badge icons shows double the number of actual emails. Will they ever fix it? 'Suggestions' was never fixed, since it was introduced I've had it turned off, and I still regularly get them anyway.

No I’m on 18.1. Sorry I can’t remember what the number is but it’s the latest developer beta. I’m also not experiencing the problem on this version if that helps.
Hopefully, but after these views and nobody experiencing the same issue, I won't hold my breath. Thanks

Same same. iOS 18.0.1 on 15 Pro Max. Imap accounts.

Apple‘s performance in regard to QC has been really abysmal recently.
I know, and battery wise, people always moan about it and say it rights itself eventually, and the old adage of 'it's because it's new and you're messing with it, and it's making so many changes' etc etc, used to apply, but it's not the case this time, It's never righted itself and the iPhone14 is drowning in battery use by lunchtime, a month after the release, and '18.01' has done nothing to improve any of the problems. I think it's done the most damage out of any iOS release I can ever remember.

The lifesaver part of the iPhone was being able to work remotely, but now I have to be at a desk as it's not working properly for emails and attachments.

I have a Nothing 2a Plus as an additional work phone and it’s really just a backup. But even with FairEmail loading every email when it arrives on the server (IMAP IDLE) it barely needs a charge twice a week… This is the „fragmented“ Android system. Hard to believe. Apple better do their homework. The grass on the other side is also pretty green.

I've only just noticed this last week that iOS 18 has also broken IMAP in a big way.

My MBP, iPad and iPhone, ALWAYS used to sync up, inbox, deleted, sent folders all showed the same.

NOW.... it's not replicating any of the 3. I have some on phone, some on iPad, and some on Mac.
Even deleting emals on MBP doesn't follow on the iOS18 products.
Every other day iOS18 makes work life ridiculously impossible.

Has anyone solved how and why it's done so much damage, and why didn't 18.01 even touch the sides to sort it?
Fed up with this, It used to make work life easier, not harder.

Well, add me to the list of people having issues as of today. I have one folder which is a mailing list where people tend to post messages full of attachments, and I can't open any of them. They open fine on Thunderbird on my Mac. (which is where I usually read that list, which is why I hadn't noticed problems until today.)

I went to post about the problem and it seems others are having problems with this as well.

Damnit.

some of the attachments take forever to download and you could tell the app is on the brink of crashing. it's a regular pdf file the app becomes sluggish. it's so weird they seem to have broken the mail app with the recent update. I'm still struggling with notification delays on my iphone.

It's a massive issue, especially when nothing has been done about it after 3 iOS18 updates.
Attachments are a nightmare, but also some text emails also take time to download.
Forget it. Apple needs to look into fancy shmancy AI stuff to sell more products instead of getting core functionality right.

Attachments used to load almost instantly, regardless, on all previous iOS. It's infuriating that nothing has been done on all of their updates, AND they say they are aware of some of the issues. Bet not all of them though

I have similar problems on my iPad Pro (18.2) only it's far worse on my M1 MacBook Air (16.2) - sometimes attachments just never download no matter what I do.
The same emails with attachments download pretty much instantly on my old Mini running Ventura and iPhone (18.2)...
The new Apple - it no longer Just Works, it's now 'It Just and Only Just Works'....
But keep on raking the dollars in and giving us Ai rubbish that most people don't want or need....

Apple has gone great lengths to worsen certain aspects of their devices. On macOS one major nuisance atm is that Safari can’t save downloads to SMB shares. It will not finish, complaining the download can’t be moved, and leave the download folder in place (with the full download inside).

My sole reason for using Apple is ease of use with a little comfort and their great audio/video recording capabilities. However, at least in regard to my phone, I can always swap within a day (I am self hosting my contacts, calendars, passwords etc.).

It’s not going to be a blow for them - but I don’t see how the few of us here are going to make a change. Especially when the majority of customers won’t even notice because these problems because they use native apps like Google Mail or the like (with all the drawbacks that come with them).

I’d also assume that Apple Mail works fine with at least iCloud…

Yeh, iPad Air same, all iOS is same. Painful to the extreme. I just give up now, I can't be bothered. I force close and open several times, and there are still images that don't load. Some do, but only after the force close repeated. It's not fit for purpose anymore.

Like the 'Follow Up' suggestions that's never actually turned off since it was introduced, I've a feeling this won't ever be right again. The Follow Up problem, I can live with, but this email 'not' download and intermittent not syncing properly with other iOS and Mac, I can't.

To me it seems they totally have lost focus. Previously they’d be having some kind of mission like making money with great products. It seems this has been reduced to making money. Just look at the Apple Vision debacle or their AI approach (too little, too late).

The bug with selecting and playing songs in Music via the Watch (picking the song there to be played on the phone) has just been fixed. To clarify… it would only work with bought songs that had an ID until just recently. Self made MP3s or AACs would not work. This was broken for … 3 years? 4 years?

Does anyone have a bug ID or so for this Mail thing? Then I’ll try and also file a report although my expectations are low.

I get the error code POSIX 96 all day every day, since September iOS18 as well, and when searching for the code it finds on 'their' own forum, a thread of people who contacted them in September/October about this code that says that 'Cupertino' are on it in October. Yeh, great job.

BTW just in case this would matter… are you using private relay? I am running a local Pi-hole and have been blocking private relay here. This caused a lot of issues with the latest iOS update with mail being almost unable to pull messages off the server. Allowing private relay has remedied the situation. And the nice side effect is: Ads work again, too. 🫤

Exactly this problem since iOS 18. Sadly, it’s not fixed in 18.2.1. In fact, it’s worse.

Was just about to come on here and say the same thing after the 18.2.1
If anyone is expecting them to fix the problem, the first thing I saw was the email sent from iPad didn't show in the iPhone sent folder, and is still intermittent, some do, some don't, go figure! Plus the attachments still take a week to load.

Cheers Apple. Great service
