I'm counting down the days for all you whiners to leave at&t so I can enjoy my already great network while you all bitch about the next one.

Not at all. I have never been without 5 bars of 3G with my iPhone. Granted, I have not traveled to the northern part of the state yet, but when near my home, I couldn't be happier with AT&T. and frankly, I'm sick of people complaining about it. If you don't like AT&T, jailbreak and unlock for T-Mobile, or go android. Either way, stop whining.

I have 5 bars on my iphone almost all the time. The problem is I'll then try to get on the internet or get my email, and it'll sit, then wait, then say it can't connect. The times where it does say "no network" or "searching", it'll often suddenly find 5 bars.

It isn't so much the reception as the fact that my iphone is constantly lying to me.

I'm glad to hear your phone works so well wherever you are in Minnesota but I can assure you in San Francisco it's a big problem.

I think I will go android. And if you want me to quit complaining, write a letter to AT&T and Apple asking them to fix the network and the way the iphone searches for the network. If it worked, I wouldn't complain.

Nope, very happy with AT&T.
If you want to switch do you need others to follow you too?
Move on.

I don't need anyone to follow me, but I know plenty will. It's a miserable experience and I can't wait to get rid of thing thing.

If you want a new phone/carrier, great, knock yourself out. But we really don't need yet another thread whose sole point is to complain about AT&T in NYC or San Fran. Yes, there are problems there. AT&T has even admitted it delivers a sub-par product in those markets. But honestly, I wish MR would ban these useless "I'm leaving the iPhone" threads. This isn't Twitter.

I know I am. It'll be this June and I really can't wait. The iphone is decent but not with this network - and I blame the way the iphone does keep alive checks/network searching as part of the problem.

Will probably get some sort of android based phone.

Anyone else?

It will not be this June or even this year. With the agreement that Apple signed with AT+T for the iPad, exclusivity has been extended until at least next summer.

Use AT+T or consider another phone.

While I spent most of 2009 bitching about the deficiencies of AT&T's network in the NoVA area, I must admit that things have very much improved in 2010. I (very) rarely drop calls anymore, and many of the places where I previously had poor or no signal (or signal but no data) are now blanketed in silky smooth 3G. Can't speak for the rest of the country, but they've really stepped it up out here.

Go where?

I'd consider moving to Sprint, maybe, but you sure don't hear much about the iPhone ever coming to Sprint, do you?

I'm sure as heck never signing up with Verizon.

Anyway, it doesn't matter anymore. I would have talked about this in 2009, but over the last few months AT&T service has improved a TON. I used to have a lot of problems but those are all a thing of the past now. So I have no reason to run away from AT&T anymore. I'm perfectly happy.

EDIT: Wow, if you want proof that AT&T has improved, just read this thread. These exact same threads 1 year ago were usually 75% anti-AT&T. Today I'd say it's close to 90% pro-AT&T. That's quite the turnaround.

I've had pretty good coverage... Not the best, but not anything I'd switch over. My primary desire to change carriers is because it's damn expensive! :)

So I just have to find a comparable phone with a better and cheaper plan...

I don't think the OP is waiting until June for the iPhone to come to VZW...I think June must be the date his contract with AT&T ends...

Nope

I'm counting down to when my contract is up, this summer, so I can renew and get the latest version of the iPhone. I have no problems with AT&T. :)

I travel for work and I have been in Ohio, Florida, DC, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and Virginia with my iPhone. Other than the metro tunnels I have not had any problems with coverage that would make me want to get rid of my iPhone.

Actually, I like these threads. They make Apple uncomfortable and that is very good. The boos when Jobs announced the AT&T connection for the iPad was excellent.

Every thread and comment regarding the viability of the AT&T network is good and those actually coming to the defense of either network is useful. It all calls attention to what the carriers would like to keep quiet.

And the AT&T vs Verizon ads, with the maps, you couldn't ask for more! They are performing a public service by showing non-technical people that the carriers are not to be believed.

It would be fantastic to be in the boardrooms of these carriers as sweaty, fat red-faced executives spit-scream about the opposition's latest commercial and authorize yet another counter-ad and damn the truth! Priceless!

Any one who complains about got an iPhone knowing that AT&T was spotty in their area I will classify as an idiot.

Steps in choosing a cell phone
Step 1
Choose the network that is best for you in your area.
Step 2
Choose a plan and add-ons that are best for you.
Step 3
Choose the phone that works best for you on said network

If you skip any of these steps you lose all right to complain. To many people are skipping straight to step 3 choosing an iPhone and then they complain about the other 2 things but if they used their brains they would know that AT&T in their area was poor and choose another network.

I am on AT&T because it works really well were I spend my time. I left Verizon because of their crap service at the time in Lubbock followed by the lies that they would be in the area in 6 months (6 months turn into over 3 years). AT&T were the best in Lubbock TX at the time. I went with Spirnt and then switch to AT&T because my family was on it and stayed on it because most of my family and friends were on it and still had great service.

Back then step 1 said AT&T and sprint
Step 2 says AT&T

If you run it -
Step 1 - AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.
Step 2 - AT&T due to free mobile to mobile.
Step 3 - Blackberry :D

I've had absolutely zero problems with AT&T since I got my 3G in December '08. Even though my contact is up this December, I don't plan on leaving AT&T.

hi, MR newbie here. burn me for asking the obvious question, but how on earth can you say that the "iPhone is decent". what the heck are you comparing it to? have you forgotten who the trendsetter is? :apple:

late last year AT&T got pretty bad in NYC, but with 3.1.3 and the upgrades it's now almost twice as fast as my SDSL and in some cases twice as fast. for a while my speedtests were in the dial up range and now it's 2000 - 3000 depending on location, time and day of the week. and manhattan is faster than the outer boroughs a lot of times as well

Verizon't data network is a lot slower so there is no reason to switch

how often does it do keep alive checks? one time my wife lost her 3G for 2 days and i knew no one stole it since it did a few network checks in the middle of the night for a total of less than 1MB.

she was nervous since i told her i was going to replace it with a 20 year old 5 pound cell phone

Or was she nervous because she left it at the home of the 20 year old, 6' 5'' guy she is replacing you with?;):D

AT&T gave me great service in 2008.

It gave me crapy service in 2009. I complained a lot that year.

So excuse me for not "using my brain" and seeing into the future when I bought my iPhone. Some of us aren't psychics like you apparently are, but that doesn't give you the right to insult us just because we're not blessed with magical powers.

Then you are among the minority. Most of the complaints I read here about AT&T start like this..
Person with no Right to complain said:
"I switch to AT&T for the iPhone ...."

Very few of them are like yours. The people I am insulting are the ones with the above quote

So is this a rant thread? a troll thread? or are you trying to get people to cross the red sea with you?
