I purchased my 13 pro a few weeks ago unlocked directly from my local Apple store.

When I was comparing the 13 pro to the regular 13, I noticed Apple charges an extra $29 for the unlocked 13 models
? anyone know why????

When I selected the 13 pro unlocked it was the same price (no extra $29 charge)

And since that made the price difference (before tax) $171 I decided to purchase the pro (120hz, battery life, screen brightness, build quality, better cameras) for the *little extra* money.

Anyone else have the same though process and make the same choice?

The pro seems the natural upsell option and I’m sure plenty people choose it for the same reasons as you.

I noticed the extra $29 charge a couple of weeks ago, too. But that charge is no longer mentioned. Seems to have done away with after Christmas. Legally, that extra charge is against the FTC law for Deceptive Pricing because they are advertising the price as being X amount, but in reality, you are being charged additional if you do not comply with their additional terms at checkout.

I suppose Apple had a deal with the four major carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon) that if Apple activated devices with them, Apple will receive a kickback, or something similar.

Edit: Whoops, I spoke without checking the iPhone 13 prices, and only checked the pro line. Seems Apple have kept the $29 for the normal iPhone 13 line. Dropping a complaint to FTC should have them remove it. ;)

On Apple's website, they're still charging $29 for the unlocked version of the regular iPhone 13.

I check the iPhone 12's as well, still adding the additional cost for the phone to be fully unlocked.

Strangely enough, they don't charge the extra $29 for the iPhone 11 or iPhone SE 2020 unlocked versions.

I honestly couldn't have imagined that a $29 *upcharge?* would get me to pay for the more for the expensive Pro model.

It was almost out of principle.

If there wasn't that $29 *fee?* cost I probably would have gotten the regular 13. ?

I don't know… I would really want to have the Pro, but I find problematic this noticeable weight difference. Did you get used to it? Compared to the 13, the 13 Pro feels like a brick and also thicker although this of course cannot be.

Full disclosure, I workout 2-3 times a week (weightlifting and HIIT).

When I was at the Apple Store, I didn't feel any significant weight difference between the 13 and 13 pro.

My only gripe was I had a 12 mini that I traded in, and the 13 pro is a little on the bigger side. Its a lot harder to reach the corners. I had the 11 pro and it was a lot more manageable to navigate menus etc. on a daily basis.

I had a Xr for the longest time as well. It was bigger, heavier, bulkier etc. and that thing took a while to get used to.

The only issue I have/had with the weight (I've gotten used to it) is when the phone is in my pocket. The 12 mini was really nice because it didn't have as much weight to knock around in my pockets. The 13 pro is definitely a lot bigger and heavier when I wear my "athleisure" loose clothing.
