Not so much with siri, but with text messaging and I use the little mic, it never does a great job and I'm pretty disappointed with it...I still use Dragon if I need to speak out a text message, especially if it is more than just one sentence.

I find the dictation feature about 98% accurate and pretty much identical to DragonDictate...which is not surprising since Apple licensed the software from Nuance.

Do you perhaps have a thick accent?

Me too. No problems here. I'm really impressed with voice to text.

Maybe that is it...I dunno...perhaps I'm mumbling too much, but Dragon seems to do a little bit better with my accent for what ever reason

Works great for me. Sure it misses a few words now and then but very rarely. I'd say its about 96% accurate.

Use the speech to text quite often and it works great for me.

It about met my expectations. Which were pretty low - 60% accuracy or less in real world usage, and far quicker to stop and type in most scenarios, roughly the same as Dragon Dictate.

Personally, I think system-wide dictation integration is the best thing to happen to the iPhone since copy and paste. I use it every day, many times a day. It is so much easier and more efficient than tapping on a tiny soft keyboard (as much of an advance as that was when it came out, it's now been relegated to backup text entry method).

I just had my iphone replaced today for an unrelated reason, and this new iphone recognizes my voice MUCH better than my old one. I dunno if some phones have mic issues or what, but the difference is profound. I can be seen complaining about this issue in other threads, but since I got the phone replaced it's pretty awesome now.

I have no problems with the voice to text feature and find it very accurate, whether it's dictating text or using Siri it's always spot on.

Siri understand me 99% versus Nuance. Sometimes Nuance just comes up blank, its weird. I have an accent but Androids text to speech understands me 99% so go figure.

Im still working with it and it does alright for things that are one sentence, but Ive yet to see it do any punctuation....I dont need anything like commas, but a period would be nice, I can get that with dragon diction and Im getting better results still with dragon....hmm guess dragon diction picks up my accent better

You have to actually say "period" or "comma" when you want to insert a period or comma respectively. This applies to all quotation marks you may want to enter when using voice dictation

I have had pretty good success with this feature.

And let's just say I am not one to pronounce my words.

I live in Australia, and Siri is great, recognizing my accent very well (obviously using the Australian language setting). However the voice to text is hopeless UNLESS I put on a fake American accent, then it is nearly 98% accurate. So for some bizarre reason, only the American accent is catered for with voice to text (i.e. whenever you press the microphone key on the keyboard). I cannot understand why Apple has done this!

Hell, both Siri and voice to text work better than I expected.

There should be a microphone button to the left of the space bar.

I have found that the accuracy varies dramatically depending on whether I am simply dictating a note, or email, or text message by starting the appropriate app and pressing the 'dictate' button versus asking Siri to take a note, send a message, create a reminder etc.

I do have a Scottish accent but even with that I am getting about 95% dictation accuracy without having to make much effort. On the other hand, I get 0-50% accuracy when Siri is in control.

I actually did a test by recording some text in Quicktime and then playing it back and having Siri create a note from it, and then using the dictation button to do the same. I recorded 'The traffic is very bad'.

Siri gave me: 'Traffic is Betty'
Dictation gave me: 'The traffic is very bad'

Anyone else notice the same behavior?

    Scott.

Voice to text has been very good for me. I've been quite surprised at how good it actually is and I now use it all the time.
