I've got an iP4 with 4.0.1 loaded and have been experiencing the following problems:

1. Occasional inability to 'slide to unlock' when trying to answer an incoming phone call (the slider moves a little bit but bounces/snaps back to the left) (didn't have this with OS 3.x)

2. Safari being unresponsive for seconds at a time (didn't have this with OS 3.x)

3. And most frequently...apps crashing immediately/soon after launching them (somewhat like was happening in early versions of OS 2) (didn't have this with OS 3.x)

These issues were also present with 4.0.0 and are not fixed by rebooting or hard resetting. I wonder if it has something to do with memory management related to multi-tasking?

Any thoughts/help appreciated.

Just yesterday I had the Phone App crashing as soon as it tried to open. I tried it about a dozen times and no luck. I then went into Contacts and found the person I was gonna call and hit their number and the Phone App opened normally and called them. And after that the Phone App has been working normally.

This happened on my 3G going back through all the OS versions it ran. I think it has to do with your finger, it happens mostly when it's hot and I've been sweating. I assume the phone isn't reading my finger correctly, not that the software has anything to do with it.

2. Safari being unresponsive for seconds at a time

Same thing...happens the same amount on my i4 as it did on my 3G.

Nope, none of that on my i4.

Nope, not here. If it's easily duplicated, I would take it in to an Apple store. Could be something wrong with it.

I agree with some stuff you mentioned, but mybe that's because I jailbroke my iPhone.

I've experienced all of the above. Also when trying to close apps in the multitasking bar the phone freezes occasionally for about 5 seconds before snapping back.

Also sometimes i'll get an text message bubble first...only for the sound/vibrate to follow 2 secs later

Vanilla 4.0.1 here...no mods

*shrug*

Go figure.

I bought my iPhone 4 a few days ago, I have had the very same problems plus random rebooting, I tough my iPhone was defective, I restored it, set as a new phone, restoring backup from my former 3GS, try wifi on, wifi off, EVERYTHING but this baby kept screwing me over, the battery was draining very fast too.

Today I was going to my Apple Premium Reseller to turn it back, but as the problems just happens randomly I decided to record my iPhone 4 crashing just in cause It wouldn't crash when trying to show my problems at the store.

So, I recorded 3 videos and I noticed something, there was always the same app loaded when it crashed, I could have just run it one second ago or 1 minute, but this thing always crashed after using this app.

What app? Mobile RSS , this sucker crashed my phone, stayed on background messing with the entire system, making it unstable and eating my battery, I uninstalled it this morning and since then(In Spain it's midnight right now)...ZERO problems so far.

So, restore as a new phone, try if it works fine, think the apps you use everyday and try installing it one at a time to see if some app is messing with your iPhone.

Had all these issues all along starting with original iPhone. I've had some or all of these issues once in a while with iPhone 2G, 3GS, and 4 with various versions of iOS. Not sure if it's related to jailbreak.

Yep, all those plus restarting the phone alternates album/location info at the bottom of pictures and portrait lock crashes apps that only display in landscape orientation.

I've had mine for 7 days, with no issues so far.
