I woke up specifically to pre-order, knowing the predicament if I did not pre-order early enough. Unfortunately, there was an error with the order and two orders were made. I promptly cancelled an order and left the other active. By this stage, the active order was being processed.

After a few hours and the order status system being intermittent, I find that my only active order had been cancelled, not by myself but by Apple. I immediately contacted Apple to understand the situation and was informed that whilst the agent was not aware of why it was cancelled, I should contact my bank to see if there was a security block. I did and confirmed that there was no security block and that Apple was cleared the full amount given that I paid via debit card. After calling Apple again, The agent couldn't understand the issue and offered to contact his supervisor. He did so and promptly returned back to me but could offer no satisfactory answer to the cancellation. What was worse was that he confirmed that Apple retained the hold on the £600 ($933) and it would be returned to be within the next 1-2 business days, so next week at time of writing,

I settled for repurchasing with a new card. Consequently, I now face. 1-2 week lead time before the product is shipped out to me.

I find this situation completely unacceptable and the experience has been far less than something I had hoped for.

I still haven't gotten an email from Apple explaining this, I explicitly requested one.

Reports from the last iPhone launch of mysteriously cancelled orders is nothing new. A lot of people reported it for the iPhone 4.

I did ask specifically for an email explaining this - I was assured that this was going to be sent, by supervisor Gilbert.

Apple canceled the re-order I made.

:( At this rate, I don't think I'm going to get an iPhone this October.

This is the situation now.

Is there not any chance you can get in a queue at an Apple store Friday?

The nearest one to me is Southampton. People are already queuing up and I have the swing shift on Friday: 4AM to 4PM :/
