I've been going through, again, another day or week now of trying to organize my iPhone. Going through Reddit and YouTube for suggestions, puts me in a rabbit hole. Hours later I am so upset with myself wasting time on this issue. Have just reset the Home Layout and lived with it for a few days and other times put everything in one folder. Today I learned how to do shortcuts and thought I was on the right track but lost interest as soon as I figured out that all I was doing was creating shortcuts and leaving them on the widget screen.

I always think if I spend time reading and testing different layouts, eventually I will find a setup I like to use daily.

Do you go through this too? I'm ready to start deleting apps I don't use and resetting the home layout again.:(

I wish they would give the option to alphabetize the apps.
You can do this by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout. Doing this will put Apple apps on the first screen non-alpha (with some spillover to the 2nd screen) and the rest of your apps in alpha order on subsequent screens.

Swipe down> Spotlight search> Start typing the first letters of the app. For example when I type S, Spotify shows up. This is the lazy way to find apps. I have all my apps organized by type in folders but I hardly ever go into those folders to launch apps with the exception of my banking/ bill pay apps for some reason.

Edit: I have a "Unused" folder as sort of a naughty bin where I put apps I think aren't needed anymore. Every once in a while I'll go into that folder and uninstall ones I'm sure I don't need or use.

wish they had swipe up from dock to have full list of apps by alphabet, while it may look like a android in that part it would make your homescreen a lot cleaner and easier to use

I do miss some of the customizations Android offered but not enough to deal with the other issues. Maybe Apple will figure a way to allow more customization while maintaining the stability of iOS

There are rumors of some type of list view on iOS 14 but I don't remember where I heard this. I agree this would be awesome!

I was resetting the home layout but tonight I just put everything in two folders. One for Apple and another folder for everything else. Both live in the dock alone.

I have shortcuts to open apps in the widget screen but since I’m swiping from up to down to get to Search, I feel these shortcuts are not needed anymore. I am using Drafts more to type everything then share to whatever app it needs to go to.

I do like Android’s customization options for the home screen. iOS fixed layout feels so old in 2020.

I also use a Note 9 for work so I’m familiar with customization. As I’ve posted elsewhere, family and friends are all iOS so I stick with the iPhone for personal use. The home is all on iOS ecosystem for the family. I tried using the Note 9 for 6 months and these supposed loved ones and friends gave me hell every minute when they needed to commmunicate with me! LOL

I wish there was still an option to organize them from within iTunes. I find the whole process of dragging them around with my finger infuriating...they latch onto one another and try to make folders, etc.

To answer your question: does anybody else spend/waste time organizing their home screen?

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: I was in fact just sitting outside for a couple hours using a Numbers spreadsheet to rate how much I used each app so I'd know which I want more handy, arranging how to put apps into folders for easier thumb-reach, and choosing emoji for naming folders so I didn't have to see even more stuff (letters) on the screen.

I both feel good and silly about all of that.

Would love the customization that many of you are discussing. :)
