Is it just me or is Beats 1 really annoying? Before the rumors Apple had hired him I had never heard of Zane Lowe, and I certainly never listed to him before. With all of the hype Apple slathered on Apple Music and Beats 1 I has hoping for something better than the standard radio experience. I must had it to them that they've created something unique, and the selection is something you won't find anywhere else.

But, they're still doing the REALLY annoying thing where they talk over the music endlessly blathering on about nothing and giving countless station identifications. For example, I was listening last night and they started playing a song I had never heard before and was liking. Then during the climax of the song Zane starts moaning and making some other weird sounds (it was about as gross as it sounds) and then starts talking for the next 30 seconds. All during the BEST part of the song. WTF?! Throw in the fact that some woman will just say "Beats 1" about half a dozen times in the middle of songs, and in the end I was reminded why I stopped listening to radio in the first place.

I'm really trying to like the new additions in Apple Music, I really am. But Apple is making it really hard. I get that the DJs love the music, which is great until their enthusiasm interferes with MY enjoyment of the music. And why are they doing so many damn station IDs? I get why real radio stations do it, FCC regulations and all, but they're not a normal radio station. That's one of the main selling points. So why are they doing this annoying thing that they don't have to?

I will say, at least the new featured stations, the ones without annoying DJs, are good. I listed to a couple of those for over an hour last night and actually bought some music as a result.

I'm actually enjoying Beats 1. The music they're playing is a good mix of all genres and the station ID's and DJ talk actually brings a bit of a human element that I found lacking from Pandora and Spotify radio. I found these automated radio apps repeated a lot of the songs. I find Beats 1 good background music while I'm at work, that being said, talk to me in 3 months and I might be sick of it...

It's what I expected having listened to BBC Radio 1 in the past. In many ways it's a carbon copy of that minus any news, weather and traffic breaks.

I think their music selection is ok. I was hoping for a more well rounded "flagship" station but apparently it is fairly limited and geared to a narrow demographic. I guess Apple thinks their music fans fall into a small little box.

So far I'm enjoying it. Do I love EVERY song being played, of course not... But I also didn't expect to. I've discovered a few songs/artists already and look to continue that trend. Have it playing throughout my house through all my airplay speakers with the help of Airfoil, loving it. Now if only Apple will give us a way to play to multiple airplay speakers so I can cut out Airfoil...

I was going to go into a rant on the selection as well, but the post was getting a bit long as it was. I don't know, the whole thing has that air of superiority that you get from so many music snobs. You know what I'm talking about, that sense that if you don't like this song you're an idiot. I don't know, maybe that part is just me being frustrated with the rest of the experience.

You started the thread with an antagonizing title, what did you expect?

I do not find it annoying, but as others stated, I don't necessarily like every song.

Also, it's only been out for TWO days. How do any of us know how this station will evolve (or devolve)?

Huh? I wasn't complaining about any of the responses. I was just building on what firstapple and roland.g said. Their statements about not liking every song were related to something else I had been thinking, so I decided to throw that in the mix as well.

As I alluded to in the first post, I like some of the songs they play but not all. The other annoyances I mentioned outweigh the selection in my mind.

You could just select the radio station for the genre of music you wish to listen to if you don't enjoy all the commentary.

This is a good example of why rushing to conclusions is never good.
Give it time and try not to be overly critical of a service which is free for three months.

And radio jocks talk over music all the time, because they like the sound of their own voices ;)
I still stand by my opinion in that other thread. I still haven't started my Apple Music trial, and doing so is not required to listen to Beats 1 or the other featured stations.

As for the radio jocks comment, that's why I stopped listening to radio in the first place. The iPod and the iTunes store freed me of that garbage.

Its so you can't tape the songs and play them back in your car or sell them to your mates down the corner after school.

Am I showing my age haha

Its to get you to buy the albums and songs you like, or entice you to buy apple music subscription.

my main gripe at the moment is it cuts out all the time. Its like bad reception times 10

Never had a problem with it. It is what I expected. If you like the song he's playing you have access the the whole discography on Apple Music....

Get a better internet connection, it works fine on my 20 mbps wifi

They're streaming it at 256k, which to be quite honest is not needed. It's excessive and a total overkill for streaming and internet radio.. they should at least make the standard load a lower quality and give you the option to switch things up.

As for those not digging the whole styles of the presenters (more importantly Zane) are just experiencing a different culture of radio. Zane made a leading signature at BBC R1, and you need to understand it before criticizing it. As to those seeing a lot of similarities between Beats 1 & Radio 1, that's purely down to Zane carrying his curation and style across. The only time in recent days R1 sounded anything close to similar was during the hours Zane was on air.. now that he's left and R1 can fulfill their changes that need to be implemented (forced by the BBC Trust) you'll hardly spot any similarities.

Tell me about it. I have been listening to internet radio since the 90's and remember live station networks like Netradio, Spinner which then became AOL Radio but still streamed live and heard much variety. Too bad those services are no longer in business they were great.

That is why today I always loved live streamed stations like Soma FM Underground 80's, DI.FM/ SJ24/7, iHeart My 80's. I notice when you got these automated playlist stations where you can skip songs. there are many repeats like with Slacker Radio which I might cancel on some stations all I hear is the same 10 songs over and over again. Then I rather just listen to a album from the artist then like with Play Music.

I really hope that Apple Music adds more live stations with promos etc. I only wish the other services like Slacker, Play Music did the same.

Julie Adenuga just played a track that I liked. I did a search (David Zowie, House Every Weekend) and it wasn't on Apple Music. It was only available to purchase on the iTunes Store.

It was on Spotify though.... A lot of us are on the fence Apple, don't push it.

I hate this regional crap. I just searched for House Every Weekend here in the U.S. and it's not available in Spotify...
