13 Pro Max - This is the worst. It is hit or miss. I stay home most of the time so I have removed the darn face ID. (Had to remove credit cards from Wallet, etc.) It absolutely drove me crazy! I'm on the annual upgrade program and have had all Face ID phones prior to this and this one is the worst.

I will be quite happy when they have a phone with both. I shortened my passcode to four digits because I'm wearing a mask so often that I have to go old school.

I had a bunch of faceId failure to recognize / slowness issues with my iPhone 13 compared to a X or 11. I figured out what the problem is in my case: it seems to have a problem with progressive glasses. If you wear progressive lens glasses you must look at the center to bottom half of the screen, not directly at the faceID camera. The minute I look downwards it unlocks immediately. It may be the way the new notch FaceID scanner is positioned compared to the older models. YMMV

That's interesting as I have trifocals and what I do when I pick up my phone is to rock it downwards and it unlocks. It sounds like it has the same effect as you looking downwards.

95% of the time it works. There are many times however it just refuses, stops working. Forces me to enter my pin.

*As for unlocking with Apple Watch with my mask on...forget it, Still, THAT is hit or miss, mostly missing.

Face ID has been 100% reliable for me previously, ever since getting my 13 pro max, it’s been behaving erratically.

Anyone else having this problem?
Have you tried the alternate face id appearance setup as well? I usually set up both since I do wear glasses off and on and it works flawlessly.

I’ve had my 13 mini for 1 month. Failed to open twice - when I had my mask on (duh) and once when I got up in the dark and tried to open it. Otherwise, stellar on opening with Face ID. It’s my first non-button phone and I’m pleasantly surprised.

Face ID? Flawless, nearly perfect on my iPhone X running 15.2. Wish everything else ran as well.

Yes. It definitely doesn’t work for me sometimes in situations where I would expect it to work. Not terrible but slightly annoying.
