Other anyone else have iphone fatigue?

I could show you my iPhone 6s but that would be painful. If you don't know what I'm talking about then do some research and you'll find it is a common theme.

I can show you my 6s+. Secondary phone, has it's own active line.



That's my 6+ above it. Oh, and to the right out of frame is my 6s.

And I know what you're talking about, but I think it should be caveated. If you are using your 6s as a substitute computer, media device, TV, game console, etc then yeah. As apps get more complicated things are going to slow down because it hits the processor harder. And sometimes Apple throttles the processor to save the hit on the battery.

It's the same deal as using an older Mac or PC to do more modern stuff. And I've been there. I was PowerPC from 2001 to 2020. Now, I'm all Intel (no M-series Macs yet).

But if you're using the phone as a phone, with texting and some light email then this isn't something to worry about. My 6s+ goes on walks with me and does absolutely fine streaming music over cellular. No slowdowns.

So, declaring that a phone slows down over time because it's being used to do things that now take more processing power is accurate - just not realistic.

I'm 81, my body is fatigued, my mind isn't far behind.
I have had just about every cell phone that came along, I had flip phone and drop down menu fatigue.
Then one day my brother showed me his new iPhone, it was so intuitive, I couldn't believe it.
Went to the Apple store the next day and got an iPhone 3. So intuitive, by the time I reached the front door, I had it all figured out. Waiting to upgrade my iPhone 12P to next new model.

No news for most here I’m sure, but I have to wave the flag for iOS assistive access.

Yes, it’s for those with cognitive disabilities.

However for those who are lucky not to have these, it instantly turns your iPhone into a ‘dumb phone’.

No safari, mail, toast style notifications etc and you can lock down who can call or message you (or not).

Even better, you can keep the utility apps in this mode that we all increasingly rely on - parking, banking etc.

Twin that with a reconditioned iPod and you’re golden!

YES ... I do. I remember when iPhone felt more "professional" and android , especially Samsung, felt very immature. The poles have swapped. I posted about my recent experience with the new fold 8. It's a very exciting product and the build quality is superb. Tim Cook could not fill Jobs shoes .. most couldn't .. combined with Ives leaving and here we are. Even still, the ecosystem is mostly what keeps me with Apple and they know it. Not changing is just easier. If the Apple version of the fold 8 doesn't blow me away, I might just jump ship. I tried to before and came right back. Time will tell. If apple could just do something interesting with their phones. Make the sounds it make much higher quality... add in some interesting notification lighting... say a glowing APPLE ..anything to make this fun again.

Yall gotta realize, a Phone has to stay a phone. There really isn't much it can become. Theres a point where you have to step in and make the product fun theres only so much it can do on its own.

Jony Ive is overrated. He is responsible for giving us all the flat UI, multi-colored unicorn puke of iOS 7. The styling for that was taken from Playskool, Romper Room and the Tutor Time daycare franchise. You're right about Cook though. He couldn't fill Job's shoes. But Ive being allowed full reign didn't exactly improve the product.

Fortunately, with Ive gone, iOS has largely improved, with Apple continuing to adopt (for better or worse) the features that only jailbreak tweaks used to allow. Which I find rather interesting, considering how jailbreaking was so badmouthed around MR for years.

As to the ecosystem, thankfully Apple still allows third party. While there are one or two things that are solely Apple that I do use from their ecosystem, Google is primarily my service suite with Dropbox handling photos. Apple's ecosystem is not why I stay with Apple.

My fatigue is that iPhones are rumoured to be going up in price and undoubtedly my next iPhone will be significantly more expensive, for a slightly better but identical experience to what I have now. Looks like I will be keeping longer and buying previous models, yet not really losing out.

I came to the conclusion yesterday that, based on what we are using now, my carrier plan, what my carrier is currently doing to its customers, and our own finances, that our next upgrades are likely to all be used phones. And probably something in the 13 series or so. That'll give us 5G at least.

It would seem then that we will largely avoid any price increases simply by the fact we won't be buying new.

Currently, 2x iPhone 11 Pro Max and 2x iPhone SE2. I do have a 6s+ with an active line, but it's not my primary phone.

I would recommend seriously looking to upgrade to the 15 Pro as you can get a 1TB for under $700. A 128GB for around $500 maybe in the $400’s. The 15 Pro is Apple Intelligence compatible and will run the latest iOS for several years forward. The only thing to consider is getting a new battery as this is something to consider buying older pre-owned devices anyway.

Just avoid buying iPhones from Networkstore on Amazon. They reprogram “boost” the battery with high cycle counts to reflect better battery health. I got a 15 Pro supposedly in renewed premium condition with battery health gusranteed greater than 90%. The device I received from Networkstore reported a battery life of 95% with 656 cycles on it. When I analyzed the battery using a few forensic level programs on my MacBook Pro, I discovered the actual battery health of my device to be 85% which made more sense based on the high cycle count.

My point being you can get good iPhones from Amazon from reputable resellers like WirelessSource where they actually sell you the device advertised. I recently received a 1TB 16 Pro from WirelessSource and it was perfect and unmolested. Just avoid Networkstore if buying from Amazon.

Thanks for that. Right now we are not looking seriously (me finding a job is more important at this time). I just anticipate that used will be our path in the near future.

Not a fan of AI though. And our phones are largely used for calls, texts and email. At this time, it's not critical because the 11PM and SE2 are both capable of iOS 27. Right now, my 11PM is running the iOS 27 Beta. Once, we've tapped out on that, it's going to get more critical.

That's what we did for the 11 Pro Max back in 2021. The 12 series was new then and the 13 was being talked about. My only concern is that the way my carrier is carrying on at this moment with customers on legacy, grandffathered plans, I might be opening myself up to being screwed.

Of course, we could buy the older model outright. But that's where our financial situation comes in. I can't. Which is why we generally buy from our carrier on installments. But then, see above.

I'll figure it out when the time actually comes, but I do want to avoid any fallout for my plan.

Right now, T-Mobile (my carrier) is aggressively force-migrating legacy plan customers to new plans - which is increasing the price per line. So far, my particular plan has been spared (I believe I am in a sweet spot of both type of plan and a price lock based on when I started my plan). But, I have no illusions that it will be spared in the future.

I am getting heavy iphone fatigue. I know I have upgraded from the 13, to the 16e, then the 17e, but the actual difference in day to day usage is pretty much non-existent besides a slightly better camera and more storage. I won't be forking over the money to get another Iphone any time soon since the actual difference will be minimal.

That is the reason why my next phone might be an Android. A completely new experience.

I went to android for the Fold 4.
You get a thrill from theming etc for about 5 minutes and then it’s literally just a load of icons that you open and close just like on iPhone
They’ve converged to be very very similar experiences

I find that I'm also completely over the iPhone: the forced march to iOs26 and its associated Googlized-AI-everywhere-all-the-time "features" leaves me completely out in the cold.

I'm looking at several dumbphones that interest me, to a greater or lesser extent. Foremost among them at this instant is the Mudita Kompakt (https://pausegadget.com/mudita-kompakt-review/), although I really dislike the fact that it is based on Android, which I trust even less than Apple. A close second is the Punkt MP02 (same Android issue), followed by the Kyocera Dura XA (same Android issue). Fourth would be the HMD/Nokia 2660 (https://pausegadget.com/hmd-nokia-2660-review/) which avoids the Android-spooge issues. I hope that this product gets some renewed development effort, because just a couple of tweeks on the S30+ OS and phone network support would vault it directly to the top of the list.

I'll keep my iPhone15 Pro until it either fails or (more likely) takes an update that annoys me even further. But its replacement will most certainly be a non-Apple, non-Google dumbphone. Speaking strictly for myself: I want a device that has never been touched by either Google or Apple, places and accepts voice calls on the current generation of cellular networks, has minimal text capability (mostly for receiving the apparently-obligatory 2FA codes), can store and play back a few hours of music via Bluetooth, has no Web browser or voice recognition capabilities whatsoever, and has a clock. And does not gather non-opt-outable electronic intelligence on me, to quietly send back to its mothership without my knowledge. Icing on the cake, if possible of course, would be a battery that lasts longer than 24 hours...

A nice dumb retro clamshell flip-phone would serve my purposes nicely. And, looking at the literature, it would appear that I'm not alone... But your mileage may vary.

I would love this too! But if I could get to websites I trust and search for information without being stalked forever and keep phone numbers and a few things on my phone without the world’s full access (aggregated and anonymized of course haha), I would like that too. I don’t need to know where I took my photos (I was there), where I drove last week (see previous) or what I or anyone else had for dinner ever, globally or in my immediate family. Some do, so options are great but where are they? I see a market. Let’s see some low tech lower priced products for the niche of us! Festivus gifts for the rest of us!
