Picture on the left is a screen shot of the camera app directly after I took the photo. Picture on the right is the actual picture in the photos app. I notice this whenever I change from 4:3 to 16:9. If I leave it at 4:3 what I see in the camera app looks fine and matches what’s in the photo app (and also matches what I see with my eyes). I’ve never run across this before. Anyone else experiencing it?

What are we supposed to be noticing? I don’t have time to go to my Mac and do a precise comparison, but the image ratio seems to be identical to me. Only one is smaller than the other.
Or do you mean the detail in the clouds? I think a fair degree of processing only happens at the point of triggering the shutter and saving the image.

The clouds look really weird in the first photo. I noticed it with every photo I took; when viewing it right away in the camera app it looks totally blown out and over exposed.

Are you referring to cloud details?
Yes. It’s not the best photo to explain what I’m seeing but any photo I took looked very blown out/over exposed/overly sharp compared to the actual photo. But I only noticed it in 16:9. 4:3 was fine.

Perhaps in iOS 18 Photos, 16:9 preview is more compressed than 4:3. Are there third party apps you can try to view photos?

With exactly the same subject?

Maybe that’s it. I’m going to test sunset tonight and see if I still notice it.
