I'm not sure if this is common. I just got the 2020 base model MBP, 13" and I noticed on the desktop, the menu is not aligned with the wallpaper. It's not a huge issue but it's catching my attention. Seems like the menu is 2 or so pixels longer than the wallpaper. This isn't an issue in apps, just on the desktop. Like I said, not a huge deal, but I wondered if anyone else has this?

Same here. Found a thread on Reddit with multiple users experiencing this as well. Decided to use a gradient wallpaper for now because it drives me nuts.

That makes me feel better knowing I’m not the only one. Is there some means of reporting this? I can’t imagine reporting to a front line support person is going to be effective.

Weird.. I have a 2015 15" MBP that I use daily and never noticed I have the same issue:

That's interesting. So it also seems to affect the 15". I've emailed this observation to Craig Federighi who, believe it or not, usually responds to emails I have sent him in the past. So maybe he will get it to the right group for a quick fix down the line.

I mean... seems like a very silly reason to email a senior VP of one of the worlds largest corporations for.. they do have a bug reporting system.

If it's silly and it works, it ain't silly. Bug reporting is pretty effective when reported in volume. Two or three folks saying "hey, this wallpaper is two pixels off" isn't going to get attention from the team in the near term.

Is this a Catalina thing?
No such issue on my Early 2015 13" on Mojave.

Don't think so. I replaced my early 2015 13" MBP on Catalina with the newly release 2020 version. Old computer did not exhibit this. New one does. So weird.

<shrug> What're the dimensions of the wallpaper, what have you told macOS to do with it in the PreferencePane, what's the resolution of the screen?

Everything is default. Default Catalina dynamic wallpaper, default resolution, nothing has been changed. I haven't even moved my files over yet. Just got the machine yesterday.

Doing some more digging, this seems to be related to the dynamic wallpapers. If I switch to one of the old non-dynamic wallpapers, it's fine. Using the Catalina and Mojave dynamic wallpapers, it appears. So I will change the wallpaper if it continues to bother me, but would still be nice if Apple fixes it because I do like those dynamic shots of Catalina Island :).

Haha, I do also notice it on the standard desktop image of my 2020 13" Macbook Pro. It's not visible when there is an application maxed. It's funny.

Really a first-world issue!

I think its an issue actually with the default Catalina desktop background itself.. even if I change to the desktop picture vs dynamic of the same, it still has the alignment problem, but no other picture does (even any of the other new ones from Catalina)

I can also confirm - this is just an issue with the default desktop picture. Other picture options don't have this problem.

Why this issue does not present itself with the same default Catalina desktop picture when used on an external display, or on a different machine?
Because the scaling changes, I'd imagine. I'd bet the math just worked out that resizing the image to be appropriate to the screen left that 1 px border.

Played around with it some more on my 15" MBP which it happens on, and as I switch between display resolutions it will refresh and be the correct size then a quick second later it resizes the wallpaper and it's a pixel off.
