I "fixed" my Prime Video issues of the adds causing the streamed video to freeze, by ENABLING my ad blocking DNS filter (Adguard Home) for the Apple TV. This prevents the ads from even playing. I have had the ATV set as excluded from filtering, as it prevents Paramount+ from streaming, despite what urls i set as allow.
As far as the interlacing issues, maybe was a bad batch of episodes, as i have moved on to S5 and it is playing fine with no lines, most of the time.

You raise an interesting point… can an Apple TV device be backed up? I’ve never even considered it. Yeah.. I disabled auto apply updates just because there is no rollback/restore mechanism. I do have a pending update to apply as well.

I'm also stuck with the Prime Video App not loading... here is the story so far after a lot of troubleshooting... and a lot of time wasted with Amazon Prime customer service without any success.

Problem: Prime Video App does not load = black background, message in various languages about internet connectivity.
Devices: Apple TV 4K generation 1 and generation 2 (tested on 2 devices; same problem)
Firmware: tvOS 15.3 and were updated to 15.4. (no impact)
Other apps running without problems: Plex, Netflix, Apple TV+, etc. Everything works flawlessly.
Internet Speed: DL 400-415 Mbps / UL 55 Mbps (no connectivity issue)
Troubleshooting performed:
1) rebooted devices - no impact
2) uninstalled app, then rebooted. No impact
3) Deregistered the devices in the Prime Video account via the website. Reinstalled the App. Same problem.
3) Factory reset the devices & did not allow the configuration to be restored from another Apple TV
4) ONLY installed the Prime Video App: it does NOT work...

Did I forget anything?

FYI, tried the phone support. Not much else to offer.
They apparently have some server issues.. but my problem predates this, so no success.

I have the solution! The fact that this is apparently related to connectivity, I decide to manually change the DNS from Google's 4.4.4.4 to Cloudflare's DNS 1.1.1.1 ... and IT WORKS ! Amazon should pay me for this. What a lot of time wasted.
  1. Main menu / click on Settings
  2. Click on General
  3. Click on Network
  4. Click on Wi-Fi / Ethernet depending on your connection
  5. Click on Configure DNS
  6. Click on Manual
  7. Enter the DNS of your choice. Enter 1.1.1.1 for Cloudflare

I found that switching to any manual DNS works. Even if it’s the same primary DNS you’re already using. The important thing appears to be that only ipv4 DNS servers are used. Manual DNS accomplishes this by restricting to a single ipv4 DNS.

Turning off ipv6 tunneling at my router (4to6 tunneling w/Comcast, fwiw) accomplishes the same thing.

Edit: Of course it would be helpful if I'd even had IPv6 configured correctly in the first place. When I tested my original IPv6 configuration at https://test-ipv6.com everything timed out. (Maybe this was a change at Comcast? Who knows?)

In any case, fixing my router's IPv6 configuration to one verified to work enabled Prime to work correctly again.

Unfortunately setting the DNS server manually does not work for me. IMHO the Prime Apple TV app is crap. Every other streaming service works perfectly. My son’s Android TV devices would stream Prime on the same TV and Projector that Prime on the Apple TV would not. The iPad Prime app will AirPlay to the Apple TV’s okay which at least allows me to watch Bosch Legacy.

Perfect! Turning off IPv6 on my wireless router also worked. This has been bugging me for months.
