Yes the regular 12 is a great device this year, but one thing I think some are overlooking is that once you increase the storage from 64GB to 128GB, the price increase to get the Pro isn't that much, and that starts with 128GB as well as the other improvements.

Agree. I’m planning on going with 256GB of storage so the delta between pro vs. non-pro is about $120. Then again, saving $120 would cover the cost of buying a HomePod Mini in November.

I'm coming from a 7 Plus so I can't decide if I want the 12 or 12 pro max. But whatever I get, I will keep for at least 3 years. Either one will be an upgrade for me. Just not sure yet.

In my imagination
I've also thought about downsizing, but I use my phone for too many things and often times find myself NEEDING the best camera I have at the moment (the one in my pocket) so I may still go for the 12 Max.

This all may change when I pick one or the other up.

Same here. I had a X and then a XS Max and the X felt like the perfect size to me, while the XS Max was always big and unwieldy. I was hoping the 12 Pro would be 5.8” because I wanted to buy that in 128GB, but it’s now bigger than that. From the renders though, the 6.1” 12 Pro looks smaller than the iPhone 11 so maybe it will be better to hold? I’m stuck between the 12 mini for its size and the 12 Pro for it’s camera and battery life.

Not an issue for me, 12 Pro Max, 128gb and Blue. Take my money today!

Every year I’ve watched the presentation live and by the end of the event I’ve known exactly what model to get.

this year I’m over here frantically trying to decide if I’m pre ordering something this week or waiting. It’s really going to come down to the wire weighing pros and cons for me and I hate it.

Exactly what I was saying earlier. Tough decision

if you've been on the pro max screen sizes and decide to downgrade, you will miss the larger screen. trust me. i always tell myself i don't need the bigger size but every year once i purchase the max sizes, i'm always happy. i can't sacrifice the screen size (i don't have an iPad though)

If both would be available this friday (Mini or 12), I would pick the mini.

Maybe I think on getting the 12 because it can get here sooner and don´t have to wait a month.

I will have some patience and wait for the Mini; to be honest I always wanted a smaller phone, that´s why I jumped between the XR, 11, 11P and finally the SE the last two years!

I was interested in a smaller phone but I’ve waited so long my eyesight isn’t good enough anymore 🤓

The non pros would interest me if they had a telephoto lens. Coming from an X I’d miss that.

So it’s 12Pro or stick with the X for me 😀

Yes, coming from an X I thought I'd go for the 12 Pro, but the mini is really tempting. Another nz$450 for the bigger screen and telephoto lens, and the downside is being a little bigger than the X. Hmmmmm

The telephoto lens is the only reason I will probably do the 12 Pro. Otherwise I think I would do the mini. Though I do question if I would really miss the telephoto or not.......

Try introducing price into the decision of which model to buy and it's a punch in the gut trying to decide on any model to buy.

I would like to have the Mini, but the 12 Pro is tempting. Also 12 is very close to 12 Pro. It's confusing.

So many tradeoffs and compromises to figure out. Anyone else having similar thoughts?
  • 625 nits vs 800 nits isn't staggeringly different, especially since it only applies to SDR. HDR on both iPhone 12 (mini) and iPhone 12 Pro (Max) are both 1200 nits. As you noted, 625 nits would only matter if you use the phone outdoor and struggle to see at max brightness.
  • iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 have Dolby Vision, albeit at 30 fps instead of 60 fps. I prefer 24 or 30 fps, so not a disadvantage for me.
  • Ultra wide angle is far more important than telephoto lens. While you can emulate telephoto via digital zoom (which is improved on iPhone 12), you can't go wider.
  • Color only matters if you prefer to use the phone without a case.

I am also struggling. I currently have an 11 pro max and it’s at times too big. I’m trying to decide between the regular 12 and the 12 pro. I don’t care too much about the better camera. I just cannot figure out anywhere if the bezel is smaller on the pro models. On the video, it looks like they are smaller, and even on the pro spec page on Apple it says “less bezel, more screen.”
I know that doesn’t seem like a big deal, but for me it’s an important factor.

I’m faced with the same dilemma this year. I’m leaning towards the iPhone 12, but its a difficult choice because I’ve always went with the Pro model(s) so the iPhone 12 feels like I’m getting less. As others have pointed out, Apple really narrowed the gap this year between models, so unless you step up into the iPhone 12 Pro max, there‘s only a marginal differences between the 6.1 Pro vs. non-Pro. The 6.7” is just too bulky for me. I might end up ordering both and returning one. Now, I need to decide which color. Decisions, decisions....

I feel the same way about my decision. I’m really digging the white iPhone 12!

IMO this year the standout iPhone to buy is the standard iPhone 12 - this year it closed the gap significantly from the standard and Pro model, as it now has the exact same design, OLED display, its lighter, etc. Besides the camera enhancements and LiDAR I see no reason to go with the 6.1" Pro
There is very little feature gap, but there is also very little price gap. It looks like $200, but if you're buying SIM free and 128 or 256 GB, it's $120 more for the Pro. I might pay that for the telephoto lens, camera enhancements, and 50% more RAM.

I'm going with the 12 Pro from a current 11 Pro. 6.1" is plenty of screen and I want the extra 2 GB of RAM over the regular 12. The 12 Pro Max weighs over 0.5 lbs. That's just too big for me to carry in my pocket.

Same here... Can't decide between 6.1 12 and 12 Pro. The Max is way to big for me. I like the look of the Pro but I don't really need a tele lens... 60fps HDR is nice to have but I can live with 30fps HDR...

The Pro is 200$ more here in Switzerland... I really don't know...
literally on the same boat, 12 to 12pro is 150£ difference, which doesnt seem that worth just for the lens and sensor

No. After all the struggling I had earlier this year deciding on a phone, I had pretty much already made up my mind that the 6.1 12 was my only option, and then only if it was smaller/lighter than the 11, which, thankfully, it appears to be.

Since I promised my granddaughter this SE for her birthday, I knew I’d be deciding on something when 12s came out (either get an 11 pro, get a 12 of some sort, or get another SE).

I’m using an SE, and while I absolutely love almost everything about it, I struggle with the keyboard size (even zoomed). It’s very frustrating to try and type on it. Because of that, I knew I couldn’t go smaller, even though I LOVE the size of the 12 mini.

It looks like the 12 is close enough to the 11 pro in size/weight that I feel comfortable going that route. I knew I wouldn’t do a pro model because I’m just not interested in spending that much on a phone, plus I don’t like the added weight from the stainless, don’t really need the additional camera features, etc.

Anyway, in short, the regular 12 6.1 is what I’m planning to order, likely in black because I‘m boring. That blue is stunning, but I think I’d get tired of it.

Is that you in your profile pic? You look way too young to have a granddaughter that uses a phone.
