Anyone else having issues with hard shell cases on M2 making the screen floppy?

I purchased my m2 MacBook Air in October. I normally put cases on my Macs because I'm clumsy. I noticed that my screen shifts with the movements like putting it down or picking it up. The hinges don't appear to be loose, so I removed the case to see if it was the weight on the screen. And since I've removed the case I haven't had any issues.

I'm just wondering if this is normal issue with the new MacBook airs when putting a case on it. Or should I take it back into apple for a check?

Also, if it is indeed the issues with cases, what are some good skins to put on it?

Personally I wouldn’t use any sort of case on a MacBook, most trap dust and lint which will inevitably do the exact opposite of what your trying to achieve and scratch your device, on top of this it will increase heat build up in the fabless design.

The device hasn’t been designed to have a hard shell case attached to it, so if it’s fine when used naked then from Apples perspective the unit won’t be faulty.

There are also quite a few reports that these hard cases prematurely make the hinge loose on the device, one YouTuber even said that an Apple employee told him that in an Apple Store.

You can possibly try a skin if your really clumsy but personally I find these always look bad.

I would just recommend getting a good sleeve for it, and just make sure there is nothing on any surfaces your putting it on that could potentially scratch the device.

I tend to agree with the previous post.

I would just have a good bag/sleeve and a good, clean microfiber cloth.

I think the hard shell cases, screen protectors cause more trouble than they are worth.

A skin would work but then you are covering up your laptop? Slickwraps is one company with good and bad reputation.

I think the best thing to do is just be as careful as you can and enjoy your laptop without worrying about it.

Apple sells hardshell cases right on their Store, online and physical. That should tell you their position on cases. Think about continuity camera. That feature wouldn’t exist if hinge wear were a real issue.

I’d compare your device with another unit. A hardshell case shouldn’t move the display lid.

Hardshell cases offer significant protection and reduces the chance of cracked displays because it adds a gap between the glass and palm rest. And obviously from physical impacts from the outside edges.

They do but no apple branded ones therefore all that tells me is apples position is that the particular hard cases they sell for the product fit them well, but I can guarantee you if you ask any apple employee if the hard case damaged the MacBook in any way would the MacBook still be covered under their 12 months warranty they would 100% say no

Actually from what i am reading and maybe I am wrong but it looks like apple does have a hand in making the incase one that they sell. Can anyone confirm?

I think the only hand apple have with companies like incase, Belkin and other third parties on their site is that they provide them with exact measurements of the devices so they can create products for the devices launch day.

If Apple had a major hand in developing and creating the cases, apple would have their Apple logo on them and sell them for a far higher profit margin but they don’t, they don’t even cover them under their own warranty according to the manufacturer notes…
