I bought the MagSafe charger with the 20w brick this week and have been used to charging the iPhone XS in the meantime, but it’s noticeably slower as usual.

But my iphone 12 pro arrived today and added my MagSafe clear case and have been using the MagSafe charger with the 20w brick, what apple recommends for the 15w. It was a 61% battery right at 4:00pm, when I checked at 4:30, it was sitting a 64%. I thought it was supposed to 15w superfast charge, am I missing something? Hardware defect, is it MagSafe case? If i use my 20w usbc to usb lightning it would have been at 85% within that time frame, maybe my expectations were high, but even then the phone feels super hot to touch

I'm having the same experience with my iPhone 12 and the MagSafe charger + 20W brick through the clear case (didn't try without case). It gets hot but barely charges. During the restore, it even discharged (it wasn't able to hold the charge despite being connected to MagSafe).

OP if you are using an iCloud backup of your XS then the phone is indexing in the background. That is going to slow the charge as the phone is busy working overtime in the background. I'd give it another try in tomorrow and you should see improvements.

Use the app and measure it.

So far the icloud has stopped downloading all the apps and media, took the MagSafe case off for the time being and i am testing it out with the watts lite for about an hour and see what kind of progress I get and will post the results back!!

The initial charging was slow while it was restoring, so I plugged the iPhone 12 into a lightning charger at first.

Did a test earlier in 6 minutes it did 5%.

Have just woken up after 5 hours sleep and the phone is fully charged but it seemed to be done hours ago.

these are my results using the magsafe right since inception, didn’t realized it hasn’t reached a 100% yet. I also found about the optimized battery charging function, i will see in a minute if it has anything to do with it holding it back

I just opened my phone and magsafe and tried it.
It gets warm and charges super slowly. And Watts Lite is not even reading the wattage.

I am super curious on what they are going to do about this, I feel this is a massive hardware defect

After I started researching more topics with other people who have been using the iphone 12 or 12pro with magsafe and the general consensus is the same, super slow.

Saw this video of him testing the magsafe charger with older iPhones, different Qi chargers, and android phones

I was more horrified to find out that his tests are not tied to the older iPhones, i tested my iphone xs and got 1-3 watts, my magsafe setup with the 20w brick using the amphere app returned these results during a 40 minute time period.

Mind you my battery was below 80% I got 2.94watts on one and 2.90watts on the other, I read apple website, they claim it can deliver *upto* 15 watts, but realistically it should close to 12w if that’s the case, not anywhere between 1-3 watts.

I did managed to talk to apple support but they think it’s the iphone. I made a Genius Bar appoint to see what they can do about it in the time.

I don’t think it’s your phone since others are having similar problems. Hopefully it is something a software update can solve.

This was similar to my result, using a silicone case. It looks like it took between 1.5 and 2 hours for mine to go from ~30% to a full charge. Seems reasonable for wireless charging.

I can't get the apps to report any charge speed at all. Watts or Ampere both say 0W whether charging via magsafe or a 30W USB-C PD charger from anker.

12 or 12 pro?
Apple usb c brick?
