In general I am starting to think the iPhone 12 Mini is kind of like going from the iPhone 7 to the iPhone X. Just a major change in direction and a whole new experience.

I'm tempted to swap from the iPhone 12 Pro to the iPhone 12 Mini because of the ability to use the Mini with one hand, and was just wondering if anyone else was thinking about doing that? I updated from the XS to the 12 Pro and it's nice but combine the larger screen, blocky design, and the extra size from putting a case on it and the iPhone 12 Pro is BARELY a one handed usage phone and feels a bit bulky. Also another reason I'm thinking of going to a iPhone 12 Mini is that my day to day usage of the iPhone is down since I also have a MacBook and iPad Pro (iMessages on those make texting way faster for example), and I'm trying to get away from social media apps and such which I think make people zone out on their iPhones.

Mildly interested but not this gen

Maybe 2nd mini or something if I wanna switch it up

I’m loving my 12 pro coming from se2

Also a bit worried battery will be lacking and it will screen size wise just be a taller se2 (akin to 4s to 5)

I’m still unreasonably befuddled and conflicted by the lineup this year.

What I want without question is an iPhone 12 Mini Superb Deluxe with all of the Pro Max’s bells and whistles. As it stands I’m having to choose between ergonomics and higher end camera/battery performance and the standard 12 Pro feels like a deeply unsatisfying middle ground. I know I’m not alone.

The wise thing to do is wait for reviews of the Mini and “Maxi” and decide if the camera upgrade is groundbreaking enough to justify the considerable inconvenience of carrying around such a huge and heavy phone... at the risk of having them both sell out until January.

Sometimes ya just can’t win, I tells ya.

I think mini is best value this year
Then max which is odd because it’s most expensive

Then toss up of 12 pro or regular depending on if 64 cuts it or not. If it does , reg 12. If 128, 12 pro

But I’d go with size and feature preference not bang for buck

After using a XR for 2 years, the 12 feels tiny and light.

12 mini would be too small for me.

Nah, not anymore. I used to be set on the mini when the phones were rumored, but in reality i just wanted a lighter phone compared to my 11 Pro. Got the 12 and it’s super light and easy to hold. Love the screen.

Yes! I’m getting a mini after preordering a 12. The size put me off. I can’t be bothered with a big screen anymore where I have to adjust it in my hand. I am slightly nervous about the battery life though. My X is on 89% after a year with a new battery

I am finding the 12 pro harder to hold than my old 11 pro. After spending some time debating with myself if I want the mini, my sweet spot would have been the 5.8" with the square edges to shrink it a down a bit more.

Flat sides definitely make the phone feel bigger. I’m used to bigger phones by now, but I’m also really curious about the mini just for the portability factor alone. I don’t use my phone nearly as much as I used to. At home, I’m almost either exclusively on my laptop or my iPad if I’ve got a screen on.

I'm in the exact same boat as you right now. Coming from a XS, I thought I would enjoy the slightly bigger screen but during my week with the 12 Pro, I've realized that the XS was the absolute max size for realistic one handed use for me.

I just wish I didn't have to compromise on battery life, camera, and RAM to get a comfortable form factor. I'm thinking I'll swap to the Mini this year and hope for a Pro Mini next year.

I was always under the impression that people who vouch for 1 🤚🏻 typing are those that like texting and driving.

It is cool to one hand type but are we really that much in a hurry?

I do appreciate small phones and it was enjoyable having the 4” SE. The 12 mini all screen will look nice but because of the battery I’m sticking with my 12 (non-pro). 6.1 is good, and if the 12 had a lcd screen the 5.8 11 pro would’ve still been my choice.

The 12 mini is the real SE II and good for those that waited for it. Best Buy already has cases and the 12 mini is definitely mini. It will be interesting with the battery usage.

For me, I always end up having something in my hand when someone texts me.

Like getting out of the car and needing to text or call for someone to come help, shopping and reading a list or asking if this item is ok instead of the other, at work I take a lot of photos and being able to navigate to review and make sure the photo isn't blurry before moving onto the next item.

1 handed stuff is way under-rated. I always remember as a kid, the dad joke was "yea with my 3rd hand"

Yep, I have had a regular 11 (not pro) for the last year, and it is a great phone, but I am not crazy about the size. I have really missed the smaller size of the 6S and 7 that I had in the past. I really, really look forward to the Mini!

I wanted way more screen than my 6s so 6.1 it is. I don't rest the phone on the pinky finger either so 1 handed use is easy

Um, no.
iPhone SE 2016 = $399
iPhone SE 2020 = $399
iPhone 12 Mini = $729

It depends on how you look at the iPhone SE/Mini.

If you consider the iPhone SE to be "The Cheap Phone" then the 2020 SE revision is the "true" iPhone SE follow-up.

If you consider the iPhone SE to be "The Small Variant of the Current Flagship" then the iPhone 12 Mini is the "true" iPhone SE follow-up.

I'm in the latter camp, personally. I'll pay whatever necessary to get the smallest iPhone possible as long as I'm not losing out on specs.

I'm far too settled with my 11 to go down a size. But I can imagine it would only take a day or so to get used to the mini.

I'm doing both honestly. Have the pro now and pre-ordering mini on Friday. I sold a bunch of Android crap so I could buy the mini cash. I sold the pixel 5 essentially for the mini. I like to keep a pulse on Android with the Pixels, but I have a Pixel 3 sitting around and that will have to do. I just wish they made a "pro" mini.
